PadapoHello everyone,
I have noticed several dents on the drawer fronts of my Malm dressers, caused by accidental bumps or improper closing. I am interested in learning about ways to prevent such damage. It would be helpful to hear about both simple, quick solutions and more extensive methods that could offer long-term protection.
Has anyone had experience with protective measures for Malm drawer fronts? Are there specific padding options, closing techniques, or other tips you would recommend?
Thanks in advance for your help!

the easiest solution is edge protectors made from soft materials, for example foam or rubber. You can simply attach these to the edges of the drawers. They absorb impacts effectively. Additionally, careful closing helps—ideally with soft-close mechanisms, if your MALM dresser supports that.

I’d like to share a brief guide that might help you:
1. Install edge protection: Attach soft foam or silicone strips to the front edges of the drawer fronts. This noticeably reduces impacts.
2. Add soft-close mechanisms: If your MALM dresser doesn’t have built-in soft closing, you can retrofit a soft-close system for the drawers. This prevents them from slamming shut.
3. Use felt pads: Stick thin felt pads on the rear contact points between the drawer and the cabinet. This helps avoid hard knocks inside the carcass.
4. Regularly check and adjust: Inspect and align the drawer runners so the fronts close smoothly and with enough resistance to prevent unnecessary impacts.
Make sure the protection doesn’t interfere with the opening function and is securely attached so it doesn’t shift.
Personally, I have had good results using a combination of soft-close and edge protection.
Hope this helps!

Additionally, I would recommend maintaining the drawer slides carefully and cleaning them if necessary, so the front panel does not accidentally slam too hard due to sticky or contaminated sliding mechanisms.

Retrofit a soft-close mechanismA soft-close system significantly reduces mechanical stress on the fronts. Especially for frequently used MALM dressers, this is a worthwhile investment. It helps keep the surface intact over the long term.
