Esra41Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to buy the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and assemble it at home. I am specifically interested in how long the average assembly time for this model usually is.
I have done some research and noticed that the instructions seem quite detailed, but I couldn't find any reliable information about the actual building time. From your experience, could you tell me roughly how long I should expect to spend assembling the wardrobe on my own?
It would also be interesting to know if having prior experience with assembling similar furniture makes a big difference, or if the Brimnes is relatively straightforward. Maybe you could also describe which steps tend to take the most time or what I should be prepared for.
I want to plan my time well and possibly ask friends for help, so a rough estimate with some details would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

From my experience, assembling the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe usually takes between 2 and 4 hours for one person, depending on DIY skills and whether all necessary tools are available.
Beginners should expect closer to 3 to 4 hours, as several steps like screwing the side panels, installing the shelves, and attaching the doors require some patience. More experienced or skilled DIYers often finish faster.
The last phase, with the installation and alignment of the sliding doors, is often the most time-consuming, as it requires precise work to ensure smooth operation. Even though the instructions are clear, it is worth carefully checking each step before proceeding.
If friends help out, the assembly time is usually significantly reduced since the workload and more complex steps can be shared.
I hope this estimate helps you plan!

The final phase involving the installation of the sliding doors and their alignment often takes a lot of time, as precise work is crucial to ensure everything operates smoothly.I would like to add that assembling the Brimnes wardrobe, like many IKEA furniture items with sliding doors, requires a certain level of routine and care.
Based on my recent assembly of a Brimnes 3-door wardrobe, I can break down the steps as follows:
- Unpacking and sorting the parts: about 15-20 minutes, since it’s important to get an initial overview of screws, panels, and assembly materials.
- Building the side panels and back panel: roughly 45 minutes. Screws should be tightened firmly but not over-tightened, as the material is mainly particleboard.
- Installing and securing the shelves: close to 30 minutes; make sure the drill holes align correctly.
- Installing the sliding doors: approximately 45-60 minutes. Patience is definitely recommended here, as the tracks need to be precisely adjusted; otherwise, the doors may stick or not close properly.
My advice is to ensure you work on a perfectly level surface during the final phase, or the wardrobe won’t fit together correctly.
As you can see, you can expect to spend between 2 and 3.5 hours if you approach the assembly in a well-organized way.
I’m also curious whether you have previous experience with furniture assembly or if this is your first larger project? That experience can affect both the time required and the approach you take.

Personally, I assembled the Brimnes wardrobe on my own and would say it took me about 3 hours in total. I had moderate experience with IKEA furniture and it really helped to carefully read through all the steps beforehand to avoid any surprises.
The most difficult part for me was hanging the large sliding doors, because it requires a lot of finesse to make sure they don’t get stuck. I took my time and made short breaks in between to stay focused.

If you’re not very practiced yet, you can also split the project into two sessions – after a break, it’s usually easier and more relaxed to continue.

The IKEA Brimnes wardrobe, depending on the model (e.g., 2- or 3-door), typically requires about 2.5 to 4 hours to assemble if done by a single person. The following factors can affect the overall time:
- Previous experience with furniture assembly
- Availability and quality of all necessary tools
- Working environment (e.g., space and surface conditions)
- Following the assembly instructions step-by-step
The instructions are detailed and should always be followed closely to avoid errors during assembly, which would lead to additional time being needed later. In particular, the sliding doors require precise adjustment, as they significantly impact the wardrobe’s functionality.
If these points are considered, the stated time range is realistic. Having assistance from at least one additional person can reduce the assembly time by about one-third.
