ᐅ How can I prevent Ikea BESTA doors from rattling when closing?

ZanderHello everyone, I have an issue with the doors of my Ikea BESTÅ cabinet: they keep rattling when closing, even though I have adjusted the hinges several times. The rattling is not loud but annoying, and it gives a somewhat cheap impression. I suspect that either the damping or the fit of the doors is not optimal. Has anyone experienced how to best prevent the BESTÅ doors from rattling when closing? Are there any special tricks, small adjustments, or recommended add-ons like better dampers or special sealing strips that can be added? I have also considered whether a complete replacement of the hinges would make sense, but I am unsure which alternatives are practical. I would really appreciate concrete advice, as it should also remain as visually discreet as possible.

Does anyone have experience with how to best stop BESTÅ doors from rattling when closed?Hey, I know that all too well! BESTÅ doors can be a bit tricky when it comes to damping. If you’ve already adjusted the hinges several times, try the following:
- Check if the door fits flush; sometimes even a small difference of a few millimeters (inches) can cause rattling.
- Install additional dampers! There are small, usually transparent dampers you can attach to the hinge—they absorb the momentum and prevent banging.
- Foam or rubber strips on the contact edge can also help reduce noise levels effectively.
I solved it back then with small silicone bumpers that you stick almost invisibly to the back of the door. It’s quick and very effective! So don’t be afraid to tinker a bit—sometimes Ikea parts just need a small personal upgrade 😉

Besides carefully adjusting the hinges, here are some options:
- Retrofit dampers: You can find small damping elements at Ikea itself or at hardware stores that you can install on the hinge mounts. This makes the closing action smoother.
- Felt strips or self-adhesive damping pads applied to the inside edge of the door frame provide a softened contact surface.
- Sometimes the shelves or interior components wobble slightly and cause the knocking noises. So check the stability of the entire construction as well.
I recommend starting with small damping pads, and if that’s not enough, then replacing the hinges with damped versions. If you have any questions, I’m happy to help.

I have been considering whether a complete replacement of the hinges might be worthwhile, but I’m unsure which alternatives are practical. In general, the standard BESTÅ hinges are designed for moderate use and usually do not have built-in soft-closing features. If you are considering replacement, I recommend soft-close clip-on hinges that are compatible with Ikea. Although these cost a bit more, they provide significantly better damping when closing.
Furthermore, proper adjustment of the hinges is essential: height, lateral alignment, and the closing force must be set optimally to prevent rattling. Finally, soft pads, such as felt or rubber strips, can also act effectively as buffers between the frame and door edge.
A combination of precise fine-tuning and, if necessary, the use of dampers has proven to be the most successful approach in practice.
