Hello everyone, some time ago I installed several IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets and now I’m wondering: How can I clean my IKEA Metod cabinets easily and effectively without damaging the surface or leaving unwanted residues? I am especially interested in which cleaning products work best, whether damp cloths or special cleaners are more suitable, and how to best handle fingerprints or light grease stains. It would also be great to know if there are any home remedies that are gentle yet effective. I appreciate any tips!

Hi Totau, I really like your question about gentle but effective cleaning of the Metod cabinets! 😎 I always use a microfiber cloth with some lukewarm water and a few drops of dish soap – that’s usually enough to remove grease and dust from the surfaces. Important: Avoid abrasive sponges or scouring agents, as they can damage the paint or the laminate. If it’s really bad, I add a few drops of vinegar essence to the water; this helps with grease stains without being too harsh. The smell might not be for everyone, but afterwards there’s no lingering odor. Give it a try! 👍

Hello Totau, I would like to approach the topic of cleaning the IKEA Metod cabinets in a more structured way. Metod fronts are usually made of melamine-coated wood or foil, which are sensitive to strong chemicals. Here is my suggestion in three steps:

- First, remove dust with a dry microfiber cloth.
- Then use a damp cloth with mild dish soap to lift grease and dirt.
- Finally, wipe again with clean water to avoid any residue.

Important: Do not use strong cleaners like alcohol, ammonia, or abrasive agents. For tough stains, it is recommended to use a very fine-textured sponge and gently dab, not rub. This helps prevent scratches and dulling. Home remedies like vinegar water can work, but use them carefully to avoid damaging the surface.

It is best to clean with a microfiber cloth and warm water. Do not use abrasive sponges or harsh cleaners.

Thanks, barge! The vinegar tip sounds interesting. Does it sometimes change the appearance, or have you found it reliable over a longer period? I’ve often heard that vinegar can damage the surface of laminated fronts.

Hey Totau, you’re absolutely right—vinegar can indeed damage the foil surface if used for a prolonged time, especially if applied undiluted. I usually dilute vinegar with water, at most 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water, and use it only on stubborn stains. Still, a microfiber cloth with mild dish soap is my go-to for everyday cleaning. The same applies to using a hairdryer, which can sometimes quickly remove small water spots. Just be sure not to use it too hot or hold it too close!
