Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of how to securely and permanently attach the doors of the Ikea PAX wardrobes. The question is not only about mounting the hinges to the carcasses but also about aligning the doors and achieving a stable fixation that remains durable over time. Many people report issues with the doors no longer closing properly or warping after a while.

Therefore, I would like to ask you: What installation steps, materials, and possibly tricks do you know to really mount the PAX doors securely and in a way that can withstand stress? Are the original fittings sufficient, or are additional reinforcements necessary? Are there any problems with fastening especially heavy doors or glass sliding doors?

I am very much looking forward to your well-founded tips and practical experiences!

The hinges must be fully recessed into the cabinet carcass and secured with all the specified screws to ensure stability.

This recommendation is generally correct; however, the question arises whether the original screws supplied by Ikea are sufficiently sized to guarantee long-term stability under higher loads (e.g., heavy glass doors).

It might be advisable to use screws with a larger diameter or longer length—provided these are compatible with the pre-drilled holes—or to add metal brackets for reinforcement. Such modifications should only be made if they make sense from a craftsmanship perspective, as otherwise warranties and returns might become problematic.

What are your experiences with this, especially regarding heavy doors?

Exactly, for heavy doors or continuous use, it is important to increase stability. However, the screw bearing surface and material thickness must be considered to avoid damaging or splitting the cabinet material.

Original parts are usually sufficient under normal load; reinforcements are an individual addition for special requirements.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to add that it can sometimes help to open and close all the doors several times after installation to adjust the hinges and alignment. Sometimes the screws settle slightly, and you only notice after a few days whether the doors are truly hanging perfectly.

Installing soft-close hinges also worked wonders for me – the doors close so smoothly that they no longer warp or stick. Definitely give it a try! Good luck to everyone currently working on this :-)
