Hello everyone, I am currently planning to assemble my IKEA Platsa wardrobe in a room with a sloped ceiling and want to ensure that the assembly is stable and safe. The challenge is that the sloped wall varies in height and I cannot fully secure the wardrobe to the wall as I would with a normal, straight installation space. My question is: How can I safely assemble an IKEA Platsa wardrobe on a sloped ceiling without risking it tipping over or becoming unstable? Are there any specific tips for fastening, compensating for the slope, or for the assembly overall? I look forward to your experiences and advice, as stability is very important to me and I want to avoid mistakes.

It is best to measure the footprint precisely, possibly using spacers or wedges underneath to compensate for any incline. Then secure the cabinet at the top with appropriate mounting brackets or wooden strips.

Hello Fokamal, thank you for your very detailed question! When installing a Platsa wardrobe under a sloped ceiling, secure mounting is especially important since the standard installation is usually designed for vertical, flat walls. Here are some detailed tips:

- First, measure the slope precisely to determine where the height differences are. It’s best to use a spirit level and a tape measure for this.
- The Platsa components are modular and can be adjusted. When choosing depth and height, make sure they fit the slope; you may need to position the wardrobe slightly forward so it doesn’t block anything under the slope.
- To compensate for the slope, use wooden wedges or cut spacers that you can attach to the back. This helps to keep the wardrobe level and more stable.
- Mount the screws for wall fixing into load-bearing areas, such as rafters or structural studs behind the wall. A simple plug in drywall (plasterboard) is not sufficient.
- If possible, attach an additional reinforcement strip above the slope on the wall to which you can firmly screw the wardrobe.
- Also, use the supplied corner brackets from IKEA to connect the modules; this increases stability.

I would be interested to know: What are the clearances under the slope, i.e., how much space or slope do you need to compensate for exactly? Do you already have an idea of the roof angle? That would allow for more precise planning.

You should attach the screws for wall mounting preferably to load-bearing points, such as the rafters or the internal supporting structure.

This is really important—I once didn’t secure a cabinet properly, and it got damaged from a small bump. With a sloping ceiling, that can happen quite easily.

I would also recommend, if you’re unsure, to ask someone with experience for help—sometimes you don’t notice the small risks yourself.

Regarding your question, Fokamal: What does the floor look like? Is it also sloped or uneven? That is often a common issue. Sometimes a subframe can help create a level base.

Best regards, and don’t worry—if you plan carefully, it will definitely work out!

For safety, I also recommend the following:

- Check the load distribution: The wardrobe should be placed as close as possible to a load-bearing wall and not just stand on the floor alone, especially with a sloped ceiling where forces need to be properly distributed.
- Use rubber pads in addition to wedges to prevent slipping, especially on smooth floors.
- If the slope has extreme angles, consider whether the modules can be adapted to fit the slope or adjust the internal layout accordingly, so that too much weight doesn’t rest on unintended areas.

These are additional safety measures I always take into account when assembling furniture in unusual spaces.
