Hello everyone, I recently installed an IKEA Metod kitchen system and am now experiencing issues with the stability of the kickboards during installation. My question is quite specific: How do I attach the Metod kickboards securely so that they neither wobble nor come loose over time? In particular, I mean the correct approach to selecting fasteners (wall plugs, screws) and whether it is advisable to use additional reinforcements, such as glue or expanding foam. It would also be helpful to get advice on how to best fit the kickboards to the wall to compensate for uneven surfaces, which often contribute to improper fastening. Looking forward to your experiences and well-founded tips!

For stable baseboards on the IKEA Metod system, I recommend using appropriate dowels and screws that suit your wall type. Pre-drilling is important. The baseboard is attached from the back using mounting clips or screwed in directly. Nothing more is necessary; I consider adhesive to be unnecessary.

Hello IXDIMI, I’m happy to provide a simple step-by-step guide on how I securely attach my Metod baseboards to ensure they stay firmly in place.

- First, always thoroughly check the wall: If there are any uneven spots, these should be evened out using leveling compound or foam. Alternatively, a thin strip of mounting tape or self-adhesive foam rubber can help fill small gaps.
- For fastening, I use suitable plastic wall anchors, not universal anchors, as those usually don’t hold as well.
- Baseboards are screwed in with flat-head screws (3.5 to 4 mm). The screws should not be too long to avoid piercing through the board but must be long enough to grip firmly inside the anchor.
- Important: The baseboards often have pre-punched holes for the screws, which are optimally positioned — I would not drill outside of these holes.
- Adhesive like silicone or construction adhesive should only be used as a supplement, not instead of screws, since baseboards in kitchens are also subject to mechanical stress (e.g., cleaning or accidental bumps).

This will help prevent the baseboard from loosening or wobbling over time. If you have any questions about wall leveling, feel free to ask!

The optimal installation of IKEA Metod baseboards is based on the following facts:

- Metod baseboards are designed to be attached to designated mounting clips or directly screwed onto the cabinet fronts.
- For wall mounting, screws with appropriate wall anchors should be used, chosen according to the wall type (e.g., cavity anchors for drywall).
- Unevenness should be minimized to reduce pressure points and stress on the baseboards.
- Construction adhesive should only be used if screws and anchors are not an option; mechanical fastening is more reliable in the long term.

In summary, I recommend always using anchor-secured screws, checking the wall for unevenness, and employing mounting clips or dedicated screw holes on the baseboard profile.

That is correct; there are two methods for installing baseboards: either directly on top of the lower cabinets so that the baseboard fits perfectly flush, or on the wall using clips. Both options have their advantages.

- When screwing directly onto the cabinets, you need only a few tools, and the baseboard remains movable with the cabinet carcass.
- Clips fixed to the wall hold the baseboard firmly, providing better resistance to impacts, but this can be more challenging on uneven walls.

Adhesive can increase stability but should only be used as a supplement and is not intended for long-term durability. A common mistake is to glue baseboards only, which often leads to detachment after a few months.
