BOPLO70Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into replacing the original hinges on my IKEA Besta system and wondering if anyone here has experience with which replacement hinges actually perform better than IKEA’s original hinges. I am particularly interested in durability, adjustment options, and the smoothness of the doors.
The original hinges are often not the most sturdy and sometimes feel a bit loose. Are there hinges available that offer better quality and functionality? I am also interested in experiences regarding easy installation and precise door alignment.
Has anyone tested any hinges or can at least recommend specific models or manufacturers? I would appreciate any information!

Are there hinges available that can be purchased instead, which are better in quality and function?Yes, definitely! I replaced my BESTA hinges with BLUMOTION hinges – they are fantastic! Very durable, self-closing, and operate very smoothly.
They can also be adjusted very precisely, which is often a problem with IKEA hinges.
If anyone has issues with squeaky or loose doors, this is definitely worth trying! Truly excellent and saves a lot of hassle in the long run!

I replaced my BESTA hinges with Blumotion hinges – they are amazing!I can fully understand that from a technical perspective. Blumotion hinges feature integrated damping, which not only makes the closing process smoother but also reduces stress on the mechanism, significantly extending its lifespan.
Technically, when replacing BESTA hinges, you should consider the following points:
- The drilling distances of the replacement hinges must be identical or compatible to allow installation without major modifications.
- The opening angles of the new hinges should match those of the BESTA doors; otherwise, proper alignment will be difficult.
- Look for adjustable cam screws for precise three-dimensional adjustment.
I recommend measuring all dimensions of the existing hinges before the upgrade and then limiting your selection to brands like Blum, Hettich, or Häfele. These manufacturers often provide detailed assembly instructions online.
One question for you: How often do you open and close your BESTA doors? Durability also depends heavily on usage.

Especially with BESTA, the drilling pattern on the mounting plate can vary, so not all replacement hinges fit without additional adapters.
The following procedure has proven effective:
- First, completely remove the original hinge and measure the drill holes.
- Then select the replacement hinge based on the manufacturer’s dimensions and check if the drill holes match.
- If necessary, adjust the drill holes or use special adapter plates.
- With Blumotion, in addition to the soft-close feature, the clip-on mechanism is an advantage that makes installation easier.
Regarding performance, I have found the best results with Blum hinges, followed by Häfele. I personally find Hettich a bit stiffer to adjust.
If anyone needs detailed tips for measuring, feel free to ask.

I would like to add that the replacement doesn’t always work as a simple plug & play.To be honest, the effort involved in replacing the original hinges on IKEA BESTA is not always worth it.
People often talk about "better," but honestly: the originals fit the design perfectly and are more affordable. Most aftermarket solutions tend to create more hassle and problems if measurements and adjustments aren’t done precisely.
I often see a hype that seems more psychological – new part = better! But in reality, many replacement hinges have overly complex mechanisms and don’t suit the minimalist BESTA look.
If you really want durable hinges, it might be better to choose a different furniture system from the start. Just my opinion, happy to discuss further.
