Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into whether Kallax storage boxes made of felt are actually more durable than those made of plastic. I am less interested in appearance or feel, and more focused on how robust the materials are with long-term use.
In my opinion, felt boxes might be more resistant to minor damage due to their flexible structure, whereas plastic could become brittle or develop cracks under heavy load. On the other hand, felt might wear out faster due to moisture or heavy use.
Does anyone have experience or perhaps long-term user feedback with both types? How do the boxes compare in everyday use regarding quality, signs of wear, and maintenance effort?
Thank you in advance!

I understand that durability is important for storage boxes, especially when you need to regularly access and protect the items inside.
I personally use felt boxes and find them very comfortable, but after about six months of heavy use, they start to show slight signs of wear. I was once disappointed when a box got a bit damp and then didn’t feel as sturdy afterwards.
Plastic, on the other hand, feels more durable but isn’t quite as flexible. Perhaps a combination of both materials makes sense, depending on what you are storing.

I have felt boxes myself and find them very comfortable, but after six months of intensive use, they show slight signs of wear. It’s similar for me. I like the look and feel of felt a lot, but with moisture or heavy loads, signs of wear appear rather quickly.
For that reason, I would recommend using plastic for heavier items whenever possible. Felt boxes are durable enough for lighter things and look better at the same time.
