DrewleHello everyone,
I recently purchased a Hemnes bed from Ikea, and I encountered some difficulties during assembly. I am particularly interested in knowing: What common assembly issues occur with the Ikea Hemnes series? I’m not only referring to obvious missing parts or unclear instructions but also to problems related to the design or materials used, such as the fit of the components, stability after assembly, and typical sources of error. Perhaps you have experience with specific models from the Hemnes range or can offer advice on how to avoid or resolve such problems.
Thank you in advance for your detailed responses!

- For example, when screwing together the bed sides and cross slats, the question often arises whether the screws are aligned correctly, as incorrect angles can affect stability.
- The wood quality is good, but this can sometimes cause screws not to hold immediately, especially if the wood is slightly damp or has small splintered areas.
My tip: Start screwing in carefully and, if you encounter resistance, avoid applying too much force—instead, slightly adjust the screw position.

One insight from my assembly experience: The Hemnes series often uses dowel joints that are only moderately load-bearing. If the dowels are inserted at an angle, this creates stress that can manifest over time as subtle creaking sounds or even small cracks.
It is also helpful to roughly trim the parts before assembly or adjust smaller fittings with sandpaper. This helps to avoid excessive mechanical stress.

I find it confusing that, in certain assembly steps, there is practically only one illustration that does not consider possible variations in fit. Is there a reliable method, specifically for cases like "drill holes not aligning exactly" or "joints not perfectly flush," to still assemble the furniture in a stable way?
