Hello everyone, I have a question regarding my Ikea Besta furniture, specifically the doors. I find that they close relatively loudly and harshly, which is quite disturbing during quiet moments or in the evening. My question is: how can Ikea Besta doors be made to close more quietly and softly?

I have heard about soft-close hinges but am unsure if they are practical or if there are other effective solutions, such as additional dampers or special adhesive pads. It would be great if you could also share your experiences on how to best implement this without too much effort or expensive options.

Thank you in advance!

The topic is certainly interesting, but when proceeding, the mechanical limits of the BESTA doors should also be taken into account.

It would be important to know exactly what type of hinges are installed—are they standard pivot hinges, or do you already have soft-close variants? Because I doubt that simple adhesive pads on the doors will significantly reduce the issue. Without technical modifications, noticeable “softness” is unlikely to be achieved.

I would like to provide a brief overview of how to make BESTA doors close more quietly:

- Check the hinges: Ikea offers a special "soft-close hinge" replacement part that noticeably dampens the door closing.
- Retrofit door dampers: There are door dampers (also known as soft-close buffers) that can be attached next to the hinge by sticking or screwing them on.
- Rubber buffers or self-adhesive dampers: These can be applied to the inside of the door or the cabinet frame to soften the impact.
- Adjust the hinges: Often, fine-tuning the hinges can already help the door close more smoothly.

It is important to use the correct parts and follow the installation instructions carefully, as incorrect installation can worsen the door’s function.

Additional information on the topic: Ikea BESTA doors are generally equipped with standard overlay hinges that do not have built-in soft-closing mechanisms. This naturally results in a relatively loud and hard closing sound.

When looking at the door-closing process technically, it behaves like an impulsive force acting against the door frame, caused by gravity and the hinge mechanics.

Here is a detailed procedure on how to make the doors quieter:

1. Replace hinges: There are compatible soft-close hinge models that can be fully exchanged for the standard versions. This significantly improves the damping effect.

2. Install soft-close dampers on the cabinet or door interior side. These are usually small hydraulic or rubber-damped devices that reduce the door’s closing speed at the end.

3. Door adjustment: Precise calibration of the hinges so the door does not catch or hang when closing.

4. Retrofit rubber bumpers on the contact surfaces to the cabinet. They reduce the impact noise.

5. Apply adhesive strips made of rubber or silicone on the inner side to dampen vibrations.

For evaluation: Replacing the hinges is generally the most reliable solution, even though it requires more effort. It is important to know exactly which hinges are installed and whether the doors already have pre-drilled mounting points.

I simply attached soft silicone bumpers inside my BESTA doors. This significantly reduces the slamming noise. Replacing the hinges is especially worthwhile if you value comfort a lot.

Hello Rafaelron, something important to keep in mind: besides mechanical retrofitting, adjusting the hinges can also make a big difference. Often, they are set too tight or the door hangs slightly crooked, which causes the hard impact.

If you haven’t done this yet, I recommend:

- Using a screwdriver to turn the hinge adjustment screws and optimize the alignment of the doors.
- Paying attention to an even gap between the door and the frame.
- If the door feels too heavy to close, adjusting the settings slightly so that the closing motion becomes smoother.

This is usually quick to do and, combined with rubber bumpers, can ensure a quiet door.
