Hello everyone, I am currently working on furnishing my home and have chosen some IKEA Brimnes furniture, mainly because of its clean lines and practical design. Now I’m wondering which colors work particularly well with the typical look of the Brimnes series. I’m interested not only in wall colors but also in decor and textiles that create a harmonious overall appearance. Does anyone have more in-depth experience with the color schemes around this furniture? Which shades complement the Brimnes collection well to create a cohesive and cozy atmosphere?

How large is your room and what is the lighting like?Thank you for the detailed tips! The room is about 16 square meters (170 square feet), with two windows on the east side that provide plenty of natural light in the morning but are a bit shadier in the afternoon. The furniture is white, so I have been considering using warm tones like beige or a light mustard yellow to add some coziness. Are there any specific recommendations on how to optimize the lighting when choosing colors?

In your case, using grass green or sage green tones is a very good idea, as these colors create a harmonious atmosphere and help emphasize the morning brightness. In the afternoon, when the light is a bit dimmer, such soft green shades reflect pleasantly while still conveying freshness.
Additionally, you could incorporate accessories in warm copper or brass tones, such as lampshades, picture frames, or small decorative items. These visually bring back the missing warm light.
An important point regarding the white color of your Brimnes furniture: make sure to choose a warm white tone for the walls or textiles to avoid the room feeling too sterile. A pure cold white can quickly feel uninviting.
For wall paint, I recommend a matte finish with some texture rather than a glossy one.
I think your project sounds really exciting, folkertdi! White as a base has so much potential. I have Brimnes in white myself and have paired it a lot with soft pink tones – for me, that was a complete success.
There is a nice effect when you also add gold-colored decor or accessories – it instantly makes the room much more elegant while still keeping it cozy. Just give it a try and don’t be too cautious from the start. Enjoy decorating! 😊

I can easily relate to the challenge of finding the right color scheme for your own furniture – I have experienced firsthand how uncertain you can sometimes feel. With the Brimnes furniture, I placed a lot of emphasis on choosing colors that create a cozy, homely atmosphere.
My advice: Avoid too many cool colors if you quickly get the feeling that the room feels cold or uninviting. With white furniture, a balance of natural colors with lively accents works really well. I personally used a terracotta shade for the walls and was surprised by how much warmth it adds – especially as a contrast to the white furniture. Maybe this helps you or at least encourages you to experiment a bit.
