RATRAHello everyone, I have a question about the best way to secure the back panel on Ikea Platsa furniture. During assembly, I’ve noticed that the back panel is fixed with the supplied nails, but I’m not sure about the stability and long-term durability. Especially if you plan to attach the furniture to the wall later or store heavy items inside, I wonder if there are better methods to fasten the back panel—such as using additional screws, brackets, or special adhesive tapes. Are there any proven tips or experiences on how to do this in the most effective and durable way without damaging the furniture structure? I would appreciate specific advice and possibly recommendations for tools or accessories that have worked well in practice. Thank you in advance!

Are there any proven tips or experiences on how to do this best and most permanently without damaging the furniture structure?Hello, I completely understand your concerns, especially since the back panel of Ikea Platsa is very thin and mainly serves for stabilization. The supplied thin nails are only a safeguard against the cabinets shifting sideways. If you want to secure the back panel permanently and safely, I recommend the following approach:
- Trim the back panel slightly so that it fits precisely.
- Pre-drill small holes on the sides to avoid damaging the plywood.
- Use thin wood screws (about 15-20 mm (0.6-0.8 inches) in length) to carefully screw the back panel in place.
- Make sure to screw into the side walls within the frame area to maintain stability.
Alternatively, you can attach brackets on the inside if the unit will later be fixed to the wall. This will increase stability without major intervention in the furniture structure.
There are also very fine staples available that offer better hold than the supplied nails if screws are not an option. For tools, a small cordless drill with adjustable torque and a cordless drill for pre-drilling are most helpful.
I hope these tips help you further.

Alternatively, you can also attach brackets on the inside if they are later additionally fixed to the wall. That’s a good tip. I also did it that way because I was worried that the back panel might come loose over time. Brackets really stabilize the back panel well, especially when combined with screws.
