Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the problem that the assembly instructions for the Ikea Brimnes dresser set are completely unclear to me. Especially the steps where multiple parts are supposed to be assembled simultaneously are, in my opinion, very poorly explained, or the diagrams are too schematic and unclear. I have already tried to follow the process logically, but I am really missing clear guidance on the exact sequence and which screws to use first in order to avoid any damage later on.

Has anyone had similar experiences or could maybe give me some tips on how to better understand the instructions? Are there perhaps tricks or alternative aids I could try if the original Ikea instructions are not helpful?

Thanks in advance!

Hello ku_aidan,

I’m familiar with the issues related to Brimnes instructions, especially since they often explain more in a basic way than in a real step-by-step manner. Here is a brief guide on how you can proceed:

- First, you should read through the entire instruction manual to get an overall understanding – even if some steps seem relevant only later on.

- Pay close attention to the symbols for screws and connectors in the drawings. Sometimes the illustrations are quite small, but the shapes usually differ clearly.

- If you need to assemble several parts simultaneously, I recommend loosely putting them together first. This way you can still move them and will have more flexibility later if something shifts.

- Regularly check if everything fits properly before fully tightening all the screws. Typical mistakes occur when already tightened screws interfere with the fitting of a section.

- A very important tip: work in a well-lit environment and use a small container to avoid losing screws and small parts.

If you get stuck at a certain point, feel free to describe it in more detail, and I can assist you more specifically.

Summary: Patience, an overall view, and careful work are key here. Ikea instructions are often quite minimalistic and require some perseverance – you can do it!

I can relate to that, especially with furniture that has many individual parts. I recommend breaking down the assembly steps into smaller sub-sections and keeping the following in mind:

- Take a close look at how the components are named and numbered, as a lot of confusion arises when it’s unclear which part is being referred to.

- Compare the screws and connectors carefully, since Brimnes often includes very similar screws. Don’t mix them up, or nothing will fit correctly in the end.

- If you’re unsure whether something is installed correctly, you can often assemble the piece loosely at first and make adjustments later. This allows for more flexibility.

- If available, use the back of the instruction sheet for notes or markings to keep track of your progress.

I know this sounds a bit time-consuming, but it really pays off with more complicated instructions. If you want, I can give you more detailed tips for individual steps or share my experience with Brimnes chests of drawers.

Simply follow the instructions step by step without skipping any parts.

Sort and number the components before assembly.

If anything is unclear: assemble loosely first, then tighten.

This helps to avoid many mistakes.

That is very good advice. Additionally, I would suggest staying as systematic and chronological as possible when following the instructions. Having an overall understanding beforehand and sorting the parts can be a huge help.

Another tip is to strictly follow the order in which the parts are screwed together. With Brimnes, it’s easy to tighten parts too early, which then leaves no room for corrections – this can even damage the furniture or cause it to jam.

It can also be useful to make your own small marks with a pencil to indicate which steps you have completed or where you might want to double-check.

Finally, if you’re unsure which screw to use, set it aside first and then carefully compare the illustration with the screw to avoid any mix-ups.
