RaulliHello everyone,
I am currently planning to get a new Ikea PAX wardrobe, as I mainly need a lot of storage space and PAX is known for being very flexible. However, the prices for the wardrobes with interior fittings and accessories are quite high, especially when combining several modules.
Therefore, my question to the community: Are there any proven money-saving tips or tricks for buying Ikea PAX wardrobes? For example, discount campaigns, smart ordering strategies, affordable alternatives for the interior systems, or maybe tips you considered during planning to reduce costs?
I would be very grateful for specific advice and personal experiences, as the investment should be worthwhile in terms of value for money and sustainability.
Best regards!

Hello Raulli,
first, an important tip: Ikea often offers discount promotions, around 10% to 15% off on PAX systems, especially during the transition to new collections. It’s worth subscribing to the newsletter and looking out for these deals. Outlet or discontinued models can also offer significant price advantages.
Furthermore, I recommend choosing modules that use standard sizes during planning, avoiding custom-made options – these are usually more expensive.
Another option is to purchase missing interior fittings later: initially assemble the system at a lower cost and then buy interior elements like drawers or shelves separately as needed.
Finally, it can be worthwhile to pick up the cabinets yourself. Delivery fees can, depending on the region, have a considerable impact on your budget.

I’ve had good experiences with the following:
- Waiting for discounts or sales at Ikea
- Checking availability online, sometimes it’s cheaper online
- Buying accessories separately
- Looking at returned items or clearance stock in the store
In my opinion, that’s all you really need.

The PAX collection is both functional and flexible, but unfortunately, that sometimes comes with a considerable price.
To add to the previous tips: It’s worth thoroughly planning your purchase with the Ikea planner before finalizing, trying out several different configurations. Often, you’ll notice that a single large module may be cheaper than several smaller ones—or vice versa.
Additionally, there are usually more affordable options for the interior elements, such as simple clothes rails instead of pricier drawers, or standard shelves instead of specially designed storage boxes.
If you’re looking for even cheaper alternatives, it can also be worthwhile to check out used PAX components, which regularly appear on furniture marketplaces or online classifieds.
Finally, waiting for special promotions, like Ikea Family Days, can sometimes save you a good amount of money.

I’d like to take this opportunity to add: Sometimes it’s worth organizing a group of friends or neighbors when buying. Ikea often offers volume discounts or vouchers for larger orders. Has anyone tried this?
Also, a small personal tip: I once sold PAX parts through Ikea returns. Customers often don’t fully express their dissatisfaction if the wardrobe was functional but they just changed their minds – a very affordable chance!
And: It’s best to assemble your wardrobe yourself, as this saves a lot on assembly costs. If you do it with friends or family, it can even be fun.
Good luck saving!
