Hello everyone, I recently purchased some furniture pieces from the MALM series by IKEA, and I’ve noticed that dust settles quickly on the surfaces, even though I clean regularly. I’m interested in learning about effective ways to protect these MALM furniture items from dust. I’m not just looking for simple dusting tips, but rather preventative measures or suitable cleaning and maintenance methods that can reduce dust buildup over the long term. Does anyone have advice on which products, surface treatments, or other strategies might be helpful? Thanks in advance!
To protect MALM furniture from dust, I recommend regularly using anti-static cloths or sprays. These reduce the electrostatic attraction that draws dust particles. It is also important not to clean the furniture with overly damp cloths, as moisture can damage the surface. Additionally, applying a surface sealant with special clear coatings can help close the pores, thereby reducing dust accumulation. However, when treating IKEA furniture, attention should be paid to material compatibility.

The surface is already quite hard and smooth. Maybe just clean it regularly and properly instead of applying expensive sealants that might only change the appearance. And honestly, dust is just part of life, isn’t it? 🙂
Dust on MALM furniture can be managed more easily with a few simple tips. In my experience, wiping the furniture with a slightly damp microfiber cloth works well – it effectively lifts the dust without scratching the surface. If you follow up with an antistatic duster, dust hardly stands a chance. And who has never had a bit of dust in their home? ... But with the right tools, you can easily get rid of that annoying nuisance! :-)

I understand that dust can be annoying, especially when you put effort into your interior design. It might help to monitor the humidity levels in the room, as air that is too dry promotes dust buildup. Therefore, use humidifiers occasionally and generally ensure there are no additional sources of dust in the room—such as carpets or open bookshelves. This way, we can create a more comfortable living environment with less dust on MALM furniture.
