Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for ways to expand my Ikea Brimnes furniture. Specifically, I am interested in whether there are so-called add-on pieces to stack on the base unit or to complement it with additional elements. I want to extend the system as modularly as possible without having to buy completely new furniture.

Does anyone have experience with this or know if Ikea officially offers such expansions for Brimnes? I am particularly interested in add-on shelves, extra drawers, or similar items that can be mounted on the existing furniture to create more storage space without changing its appearance.

I look forward to your feedback and thank you in advance!

There are no official add-on components from Ikea for the Brimnes system. The furniture is not designed to be modular in that sense. You would need to buy individual pieces such as separate shelves or dressers and place them side by side or stacked.

To clarify: The Ikea Brimnes system consists of various cabinet and dresser units that are not designed as modular stacking components.

- There are no specific stacking modules or extension kits offered by Ikea,
- combining pieces is only possible by using separate furniture units,
- direct stacking through add-on parts is not intended and would also compromise stability.

If spatial expansion is needed, I recommend other Ikea series such as Pax, which is designed to be more modular. Brimnes is more suited for standalone small shelves or dressers.

That is correct; however, sometimes you can find alternative solutions made by users themselves or through third-party hacks.

Within the community, there are several creative modifications where, for example, separate shelves, small dressers, or even custom add-on units are placed and attached to the Brimnes frame to expand it. These are not official Ikea products and require some craftsmanship.

If you are considering this, make sure to take stability and weight into account, especially when building or attaching add-on modules.

I also considered expanding the Brimnes series. Even though there are no official add-on parts, I’ve had good results by arranging multiple cabinets together as one unit. It’s important to connect them securely to avoid gaps.

However, if you’re hoping for add-on pieces that simply fit on top of the furniture and can be mounted directly, unfortunately, that’s not available—this is not part of Ikea’s design.

That sometimes left me a bit unsure, since I wanted to extend the series with a consistent look. Maybe just combine the known Brimnes elements side by side rather than stacking them.

I hope this information helps you, and good luck finding a suitable solution.
