Hello everyone,

I recently noticed some scratches and small dents on my Ikea BRIMNES bed that I would like to repair as professionally as possible. Since the furniture has a coated surface, I’m unsure how to best fix these minor damages without further affecting the appearance or damaging the surface.

My question is: What are the best methods to repair light scratches and dents on Ikea BRIMNES furniture, which typically consist of MDF with a melamine coating?

Are there any specific repair kits, paints, or home remedies you would recommend?

It’s important to me that the repair remains inconspicuous and preserves the surface as much as possible. I look forward to your tips and experiences!

For small scratches on BRIMNES, repair markers from a hardware store that match the color often work well.

For dents, you can try lifting the area using some water and heat (for example, with an iron over a damp cloth) if there is still wood behind.

Quick and easy.

Scratches on coated furniture like BRIMNES can be really annoying – but don’t worry! 😌

- Repair kits with wax sticks work great, try one in the matching color.
- For small dents: Sometimes nail polish in the right color can help, apply very carefully.
- And don’t forget: Use gentle sanding pads if the surface becomes rough.

With patience, the damage will soon be hardly visible! 😉

In general, BRIMNES furniture should be handled with great care regarding moisture and heat, as the melamine coating can be sensitive.

I recommend starting with a laminate repair kit, since these are specifically designed for coated surfaces. They include color-matched waxes and fillers that can visually conceal small dents.

Sanding is usually not advisable, as the coating is very thin.

I often conceal scratches on coatings with furniture wax or matching touch-up pens.

Dents should only be filled with special repair compounds to achieve a smooth surface.

The trick with BRIMNES: color accuracy, otherwise the difference is immediately noticeable.

Thanks for the tip! That sounds important because I was actually planning to try using a damp cloth and heat on a dent.

Could you recommend special fillers instead, or is it even worth it for such small dents? I don’t want to do something unprofessional that might make it look worse later.
