Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe and would like to better estimate how much time I should allow for assembly in advance. I am mainly interested in the average assembly time—how long it usually takes if you are reasonably handy and have all the parts and necessary tools ready.

I am looking for experience-based information for both the smaller models (2-3 doors) and the larger versions to better plan the process. Are there significant differences in assembly time depending on the wardrobe size or features (drawers, doors)?

It would also be interesting to know whether assembling with two people is noticeably faster than doing it alone, and which common pitfalls or time-consuming steps occur during the assembly.

Thanks in advance for your assessments and tips!

I would say that assembling a Brimnes wardrobe with two doors takes about 1.5 to 2 hours on your own. With two people, it often goes significantly faster, maybe around an hour.

It is important to follow the instructions carefully, otherwise the process can take much longer.

Hello leonau,

I can provide some structured guidance to give a more precise time estimate:

- Preparation time: sorting parts, getting tools ready – about 15–20 minutes
- Assembly without prior experience: around 2 to 3 hours
- With some practice or skilled hands: 1 to 1.5 hours
- With two people: 50 to 90 minutes, as tasks can be divided and stabilizing is easier

Important: Most time is usually spent on properly aligning the doors and drawers. This is often underestimated and tends to take longer than expected.

Common mistakes also include incorrectly placed dowels or screws, especially with pre-drilled holes. It’s worth taking care and working carefully.

Overall, if you prepare well and proceed step by step, you can generally expect to finish within a maximum of 2 hours.

I can only agree! If you’re impatient and screw the doors in too quickly, everything ends up crooked and requires a lot of adjustments. So my advice: really take your time to align everything carefully, even if it can be frustrating at first.

Regarding the time needed: with two people, we took about 1 hour to assemble a model with two doors and two drawers. It’s also important to read the instructions step by step and not rush ahead. This makes the assembly smoother and faster.

In my opinion, this estimate is a bit too general. The time required varies a lot depending on the model and features. I once assembled a Brimnes with four doors, which took easily 4 hours including adjusting and stabilizing – by itself.

Also, Ikea’s instructions are sometimes quite basic, which can unnecessarily increase the assembly time. Therefore, I would also like to ask if anyone has noticed differences between various versions and how much the drawers affect the time needed.

The assembly time for the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe largely depends on the following factors:

- Size and number of doors/drawers: More components increase complexity and thus the duration.
- Experience and available tools: A cordless drill significantly eases the work and shortens the time.
- Number of people: Two people usually manage to position and align the heavy parts much faster.

Based on several independent reports and personal attempts, I would recommend an average of 90 minutes for a simple 2-door model with 2 drawers. For larger wardrobes, it is advisable to plan for 3 to 4 hours, especially when considering all steps including adjustment.

The assembly is moderately challenging; the clear instructions help, but specific fittings and alignment require patience.
