Hello everyone,
I recently purchased an Ikea Platsa cabinet with doors and was initially very satisfied with the assembly. However, I am now facing an issue where the doors do not close properly. Specifically, sometimes they remain slightly open, other times they only close after applying strong pressure, and occasionally they appear crooked, so the alignment looks off.
I have checked whether the doors are hung correctly and whether all hinges are properly adjusted. Despite this, the problem persists. I have ruled out warped doors.
My questions for you are:
- Are there any common pitfalls during the assembly of PLATSA doors that should definitely be considered in this context?
- How can the closing of the doors be improved when they do not close properly and flush?
- What adjustment options are there on the hinges or the doors, and how should these ideally be set?
While searching for solutions, I came across various tips, ranging from small washers to thread-locking compounds to readjusting the door hinges.
I am looking forward to helpful advice, especially from people who have experienced this problem and know the PLATSA doors well.
Thanks in advance!

Hello du_ge,
First of all, thank you very much for your detailed description of the issue – it really helps to understand the problem better. I am very familiar with the PLATSA system and have assembled several cabinets before. Your problems with the doors are typical symptoms, often caused by small but crucial adjustments.
Here are some basics about door adjustment for PLATSA:
- The doors are mounted with two concealed hinges, each with three adjustment screws: horizontal, vertical, and depth.
- These screws allow for precise alignment of the door and adjusting the gap between the door and the cabinet body.
As you have already concluded, warped doors can be ruled out, which narrows down the problem.
My suggestion for a systematic troubleshooting approach:
1. Check whether the cabinet body itself is perfectly level. Slightly uneven floors or walls often cause tilting, which can interfere with closing.
2. Verify whether the doors are properly hung. Sometimes they hang slightly crooked if they are not fully snapped into the upper and lower mounts.
3. Adjust the hinges:
- Horizontal: This screw moves the door left/right. It is ideal for adjusting the gap to the cabinet body.
- Vertical: This raises or lowers the door slightly. It adjusts the height for flush alignment with adjacent doors or sidewalls.
- Depth: This controls how far the door sticks out in front. With this, you can set whether the door ends flush with the cabinet or protrudes slightly.
The secret to good door adjustment is a bit of patience: turn one screw a small amount at a time, examine the subtle visual changes, and continue. The horizontal screw is especially important for the door-to-cabinet gap.
Regarding washers, they are usually not needed unless the hinge does not sit flat on the back panel. Loosen the screws slightly and try if this helps the door close better or hang more evenly.
One more tip: If you place the cabinet in different spots in the room, make sure the wall is perpendicular to the floor – a carpenter’s square or spirit level can help here.
If you like, please let me know which screws you have already adjusted on the hinges and what the results were. Then I might be able to assist you more specifically.
Best regards

I’m very familiar with the PLATSA system and have assembled several cabinets before. Wow, you already have a lot of experience!
I’ve assembled my PLATSA a few times as well, and I remember exactly that problem with the doors not behaving as you want them to. 😅 Let’s put it this way: sometimes it really comes down to the screws, other times to patience.
A little tip I can give you: when adjusting, try to make only small changes at a time and use the door handle to open it instead of pushing on the door itself. That way, you get better feedback on whether the door is aligning properly.
Also, it can help to check those small plastic pads on the back edge at the bottom of the door—they partly provide the necessary spacing and soft stop. If they shift or are missing, the door might not close properly.
And don’t worry, you’re not alone! There are plenty of people here in the forum who can help if you get stuck. In the end, experience really makes the difference. Good luck with the adjustments! 🍀

I have checked whether the doors are properly hung and also whether all the hinges are correctly adjusted. Yet the problem remains. Hello,
I wanted to follow up on your point that the hinges are supposed to be correctly adjusted, but the doors still don’t close properly. Especially with PLATSA, it’s important to follow the correct order when adjusting.
My suggestion:
- First, check if the hinges are firmly secured. Sometimes the screws loosen during transport or installation.
- Then adjust the vertical screw first, so the door is properly aligned in height.
- Next, adjust the horizontal screw, which sets the correct distance to the cabinet frame.
- Finally, adjust the depth so the door closes flush and the door stop fits properly.
This order is important because adjusting in the wrong sequence often means you have to redo settings after the depth adjustment.
Also, check if the magnets or magnetic catches on the door are positioned correctly. These keep the door in place and ensure it closes securely.
If you notice the door still sticks while adjusting the screws, it might help to clean the screws or the hinge area a bit, or use a small amount of silicone spray – but be careful not to affect the closing mechanism.
Hope this helps!
