KENNETHRE7 Feb 2015 13:07Hello everyone, I am currently considering updating my Ikea Besta furniture to look more modern and tidy. Specifically, I am wondering if it is possible to upgrade Ikea Besta furniture to eliminate the usual clutter of cables using modern wireless solutions. I am not just talking about routing cable ducts, but rather completely avoiding cables through wireless charging, wireless USB or power supplies, and similar technologies. Has anyone had experience with this or any tips on how to practically and aesthetically implement such solutions with the Besta series? I am especially interested in cases where the furniture functions as a media unit— for example, TV furniture with multiple connected devices—while still maintaining a clean and organized appearance. Thanks in advance for your insights!

Is it possible to upgrade Ikea Besta furniture with modern wireless solutions to avoid the usual mess of charging cables and power adapters?Good question! I’ll break it down in more detail because the idea of a completely wireless solution for your Besta furniture is technically not that straightforward.
First: Although wireless charging has become quite common, it is primarily designed for smartphones and tablets, each requiring its own induction charging surface. The Besta furniture can accommodate this by integrating such charging stations – but you need to carefully plan their exact placement and ensure there is enough space for heat dissipation.
Second: You can only eliminate power adapters entirely if your devices support wireless power reception themselves. For TVs or AV components, this is currently unrealistic since they always need to be connected with traditional cables.
Third: You can rely on wireless transmission for data and audio—such as via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi—instead of HDMI cables. However, technologies for wireless power replacement or transmission on a larger scale are not yet mature.
In short: You can reduce cable clutter by consolidating inductive charging stations, using Wi-Fi streaming, and hiding power adapters—but a fully wireless setup is still limited for multiple devices.
What kind of devices do you have in your Besta furniture that you want to make as wireless as possible? Is there a specific setup you are planning?

That’s exactly how I see it too. 😄 Sure, completely wireless power supply is still mostly wishful thinking right now, but you can really tidy up a lot by combining a few technical gadgets.
What I did myself with my Besta shelf: I installed a Qi charging station that runs virtually invisible under a flap. I just place my phone on it—no cables, no hassle. On top of that, I have Bluetooth speakers and a Wi-Fi media player, so a lot of cables really disappear.
Cable management is still necessary to supply main power—but neatly hiding cables inside the shelves, using cable ties and Velcro, solves a lot of tangling. In my opinion, it works better than many expect. Just one tip: don’t stack too many large devices, or it gets cluttered quickly.
We still live in the age of cables—but you can disguise them well enough to feel like you have “no cable mess” anymore. 😊

Is it possible to upgrade Ikea Besta furniture to avoid messy cables using modern wireless solutions, so you can get rid of the usual tangle of charging cables and power adapters?I completely understand how annoying cable clutter with Besta furniture can be – I often feel the same, and it really gets in the way when you want to relax or work.
What has helped me is combining simple wireless solutions, but being patient with yourself and what is realistically possible. For example:
- Integrating Qi charging pads so smartphones can be placed down without cables
- Using power banks with built-in Qi chargers for devices stored inside the cabinet
- Opting for Wi-Fi-enabled devices to avoid data cables
A fully wireless setup for something like a TV isn’t possible at the moment, that’s true, but you can significantly reduce the main cable-related hassles.
I also find it very helpful to modify the furniture a bit. For example, create wall openings for cables and then use the shortest possible cables that are easy to handle and can be hidden.
If you like, I can share a few small tips I’ve tried myself. It does require a bit of rethinking, but it’s worth the effort because the result looks much neater and feels more comfortable.
