Hello everyone, I have a small but quite annoying problem with my IKEA Platsa cabinet doors: they squeak loudly every time I open or close them. The squeaking sounds like the hinges are either not properly lubricated or some friction surface is catching unpleasantly. My goal is to get the doors as quiet as possible again without having to remove all the screws or replace any parts. Does anyone have experience with this issue? What products or methods have you used to permanently fix the squeaking on PLATSA doors? I’m looking forward to concrete tips and a helpful discussion – thanks in advance!

First, you should thoroughly clean the hinges, as dust and dirt often accumulate there.Exactly, and a well-lubricated hinge simply makes things more enjoyable – almost as if your cabinet is softly singing to you instead of squeaking 😄. Sometimes a little olive oil is enough, if you don’t want it too oily. Just be careful not to get it on the areas where the door rests, or it could become slippery!KAUDRA62 schrieb:
Sometimes just a little olive oil is enough, Thanks, I’ll give that a try. Until now, I had mostly thought of using WD-40, but I find your suggestion of olive oil interesting since it’s not an aggressive substance.
One quick question: Could it be that not only the hinges but also the contact points of the door on the cabinet body itself are causing the squeaking? Or are these usually less problematic with PLATSA?
The idea to also check the contact points is a good one. PLATSA doors often rest on plastic strips or dampers at these points – if these are dirty or slightly misaligned, they can cause noise. It’s best to remove the door, clean all contact surfaces, and lightly treat them with a suitable lubricant (e.g., silicone grease).
An important note: WD-40 is a penetrating oil. While it dissolves rust and protects against moisture, it does not always provide long-lasting lubrication. For durable lubrication, silicone spray or grease is usually better. If you’re wondering exactly where the hinge is located – simply open the cover on the side of the door and inspect the mechanism.

Could it also be that not only the hinges but the contact points of the door on the frame itself are causing the squeaking? I really like how thoroughly you’re approaching the problem. Sometimes the room’s humidity can also play a role, as materials can expand or change slightly.
Don’t stress too much, every solution takes time, and sometimes small adjustments help. Maybe you can also test if the door squeaks when you position it slightly differently—that often provides clues about the cause.
