Hello everyone, I have a Platsa module from Ikea with the matching cabinet doors, and I want to be able to close the doors as quietly and safely as possible, without them slamming or wearing out quickly. My main issues are the loud slamming of the doors and the feeling that they don’t latch cleanly or close completely.
Does anyone have tips or solutions on how to adjust or retrofit the doors so they close more gently and quietly? Are there any recommended dampers or special hinges that work well? Any experiences with installation options or settings would also be very helpful, as I want to do this myself but as professionally and sustainably as possible. Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice!

The PLATSA doors come standard with simple hinges that do not include an integrated soft-close mechanism. To ensure safe and quiet closing, I recommend installing surface-mounted soft-close dampers that attach to the hinges. Important points to consider are:
- Screws should be tightened securely to prevent vibrations
- The door panel should be slightly adjusted to allow the dampers to work evenly
- Use dampers with a suitable opening range
For example, I have had good experiences with soft-close dampers from brands like Hettich, which are usually easy to retrofit.

Are you referring to those small silicone dampers or rather the mechanical dampers I often see on other furniture? Is there a difference in durability or installation? I want to avoid damaging the doors or compromising their stability.

Silicone dampers are often more of a temporary solution and less durable. Mechanical soft-close mechanisms provide a noticeably smoother closing action and protect the door over time. Precise installation is important; this does not compromise stability—in fact, it offers a secure closing feel.
Plus: In my experience, installing soft-close dampers not only reduces noise but also lowers stress when coming home at night and not wanting to wake the neighbors with a slamming door. 😂
A small tip: With Ikea PLATSA, just make sure the door is properly aligned with the frame, otherwise the damper works against the hinges and might produce more noise than intended.
