Hello everyone,

I have installed Ikea Metod cabinet fronts in my kitchen. Unfortunately, I have noticed that stubborn grease buildup sometimes forms on the white fronts, especially near the stove, which is difficult to remove with regular wiping. My question is: How can I improve the cleaning of Ikea Metod fronts when dealing with heavy grease without damaging the surface?

It would be great if you could share not only product recommendations but also effective cleaning methods, tips to prevent grease buildup, or the best approaches for handling grease that has already dried a bit.

Thanks in advance for your experiences!

This is an interesting question. My first consideration would be whether the fronts are generally grease-resistant or if the surface tends to be sensitive. When heavy grease hardens, many people immediately resort to harsh chemicals, which can damage the finish.

How do you define "heavy grease" exactly? Are you referring to fresh greasy films or older, dried-on grease? Depending on that, the approach should differ.

Thanks for asking! It’s mostly dried-on grease that has built up over several days, sometimes even weeks when I haven’t cleaned regularly. It’s especially noticeable around edges and handles.

The grease becomes sticky and is quite difficult to remove with just a regular cloth and dish soap without scrubbing too hard.

My cabinet fronts have matte, white laminate surfaces, so I want to avoid harsh cleaners that could wear or dull them.

Cleaning alcohol or vinegar water helps with dried-on grease. Work with a microfiber cloth and gentle pressure. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

I can only agree with WARREN, vinegar water (1 part vinegar to 3-4 parts water) is well suited to dissolve grease on foil surfaces without damaging them. It is important to wipe again with clean water afterward and dry the surfaces to remove any vinegar residue.

For stubborn spots, you can soak them first with warm soapy water (for example, by simply placing a damp cloth on the area) before cleaning.

Please do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool, as these will dull matte foil finishes.

Exactly, soaking is a trick that many underestimate. Especially with dried-on grease, it can be the difference between hard scrubbing and easy cleaning.

I would also recommend using silicone-free cleaners, as silicones often leave unwanted residues on plastic surfaces.

For those who prefer natural methods: a paste made from baking soda and water can help gently remove particularly stubborn grease stains – rub in gently with your finger and then wipe off.
