Hello everyone,

I have some damaged IKEA Metod countertops and cabinet fronts in my kitchen that no longer look good due to scratches, dents, or chipped edges. Since I’d prefer not to replace everything and want a quick solution, I’m looking for practical methods or products to repair these kinds of damages on Metod countertops or fronts efficiently and effectively. It’s also important for me that the solution is durable and discreet, ideally without requiring much effort or special tools.

Has anyone had experience with repair methods for Metod countertops or fronts? What steps and materials have you used to fix scratches or chipped edges, for example? I look forward to your tips and recommendations!

For small scratches, I use furniture repair markers in the matching color. For broken edges, wood filler or epoxy resin works well, followed by sanding and painting.

That’s a good approach. Additionally, I recommend thoroughly cleaning and lightly sanding the surface before any repair so that fillers or adhesives adhere better. For a quick and neat fix, edge trims or self-adhesive films can also be suitable, which can be a good visual solution when color matching is difficult.

Epoxy resin is excellent for edges, adheres very well, and dries quickly. Make sure to sand thoroughly beforehand. For minor scratches, furniture polish is often sufficient.

Thanks for the tip about edge trims! Could you please explain in more detail which types of edge trims are commonly used for Metod countertops and the best way to install them? I ask because I actually want to keep the original edge, but at some spots the appearance is barely salvageable due to chipping.

Edge profiles made of aluminum or plastic can be attached using contact adhesive. They provide additional protection to the panel and effectively cover up damage. It is important to smooth the edges beforehand and degrease the surface.
