Hello everyone, I am currently considering whether the IKEA Platsa system is a good long-term investment—specifically, if it is truly worth investing in these modular furniture pieces today for use over many years. I am particularly interested in the quality of the materials, how well the system holds up after multiple moves or renovations, and whether the flexibility of the system really justifies the effort and cost. It is important to me that the furniture remains sturdy, can be easily adapted if needed, and provides lasting satisfaction without having to make frequent replacements. Has anyone had experience with PLATSA over an extended period or can share insights on the workmanship, stability, and possible weaknesses? Are there differences between the various module types or versions that should be considered? Looking forward to your assessments and tips!

What is your specific use case? Are you setting up a permanent living space or planning frequent moves?

Thank you for the detailed response! My situation is that I plan to use the furniture in an apartment I will live in for at least 8–10 years. So, it’s more of a permanent setup with occasional minor changes in room layout. It is important to me that the furniture is durable enough not to become wobbly or damaged after just a few years. I also want to avoid significant additional costs from constant repairs or replacement parts. That’s why I’m particularly interested in an assessment of how long-lasting this furniture really is with infrequent rearranging—and whether there are model versions that tend to be more stable than others.

If you plan to use the same apartment for 8-10 years, you can consider Platsa a solid basis. Modules with additional reinforcements and MDF back panels handle loads better. It is advisable to regularly check the small parts and tighten them if necessary. This will give you more stability over the years.

Exactly! And if you want to change something later: just remodel! PLATSA is really flexibly brilliant. If you prefer something more solid, it gets expensive, and you lose the option for adjustments. I think, in the long run, you can really be satisfied with it! 🙂

PLATSA is acceptable for the price but not an investment like true quality furniture. If you don’t have heavy use, you can use it for a long time. However, spare parts and repairs are often needed later on.

That is an important factor. Even if spare parts can be purchased individually later, it is worthwhile to ensure sturdy screw connections when buying initially and possibly to plan for additional reinforcements. I also recommend choosing modules with metal doors instead of plastic ones, if available, as they tend to be more durable.

What is the expected load? Shelves with heavy books or rather lightweight clothing? And how much space do you want to cover with the system?

It is mainly intended as a wardrobe, so light to medium load, no books. Approximately 2 meters (6.6 feet) wide and 2 meters (6.6 feet) high, with enough storage space and drawers. The load will mostly come from clothing and accessories. Additionally, I want to use drawers, which tend to be used more frequently.
