Hello everyone, I am currently planning my furnishing with the IKEA Besta system and want to harmoniously complement it with some wall decorations and additional furniture in terms of color. Since Besta is available in relatively neutral basic colors like white, black-brown, or oak, I am wondering which color combinations have proven to work well with these options. Are there specific wall colors, accessories, or furniture colors that match particularly well with Besta without making the overall look too colorful or too monotonous? An overview regarding modern interior design trends would also be helpful. I look forward to your experiences and tips!

Hello Angotan, that’s a good question! Especially with the Besta system, since it is often quite simple in design, I recommend focusing on two to three main colors. For example, if you have a white Besta front, pastel shades like soft green or light blue work very well as wall colors because they emphasize the simplicity and add a fresh feel.

For black-brown, I can definitely recommend warm earth tones like terracotta or mustard yellow – these bring warmth into the room. With natural oak, shades of gray create a very modern look and fit particularly well, while a dark pine green can also provide a nice contrast. It’s always important not to mix too many different colors so the piece of furniture doesn’t get lost.

I would say that with white Besta, almost any color works. Shades that are not too bold, such as gray-blue or taupe, look good.

For darker versions, it’s better to use light-colored walls, for example cream or light gray, as this creates a harmonious effect.

I think neutral furniture pieces like Besta offer a great opportunity to experiment with bold colors. Why always play it safe?

I see it differently: pastel tones are almost a treadmill of boredom. Bold colors like strong red, mustard yellow, or even a darker violet create lively contrasts that make the Besta stand out and look styled. If you prefer a more conservative look, you can combine these with accessories – and you have a trendy overall design. Especially since IKEA furniture often becomes part of a uniform look, anyone wanting to break away should dare to use color.

For context: The Besta system is available in a variety of colors and finishes, allowing for flexible design options.

For white fronts, combining them with gray, pastel, or wood tones is advisable to create both brightness and warmth.

Black-brown variants particularly benefit from warm colors such as terracotta, ochre, or deep dark green.

Using too many different colors together can appear visually chaotic and should be avoided.

A recommended wall color can also be a soft gray tone, matching the floor to create a harmonious base.

In my experience, a harmonious overall look mainly depends on feeling emotionally comfortable with the colors. It doesn’t help much to follow a color trend that doesn’t appeal to you.

That’s true, but it’s equally important that the color choice reflects your personality and the atmosphere of the room. For example, in my living room, I use dark wood fronts combined with more muted green tones – which feels very calming to me.
