Hello everyone,

I recently got a Brimnes wardrobe from Ikea and now want to properly maintain the hinges to prevent wear and squeaking noises. I am especially interested in which maintenance products work best, how often the hinges should be treated, and whether there are specific methods to ensure smooth operation and long-term stability.

I definitely want to avoid causing damage with unsuitable products, such as aggressive cleaning agents or the wrong lubricants, since these are concealed hinges that are not easily accessible.

Does anyone have experience or useful tips on how to properly care for the hinges on an Ikea BRIMNES to keep them functioning well?

For the hinges, I always use a thin, light oil, such as sewing machine oil. This keeps them smooth and prevents squeaking noises. Usually, 1-2 times a year is sufficient.

Hinges in Ikea BRIMNES furniture are typically equipped with standard concealed hinges that require minimal maintenance. However, I recommend the following care:

- Cleaning: Gently remove dust and dirt with a soft cloth.
- Lubrication: Use silicone or Teflon sprays, as these do not become sticky.
- Interval: Applying lubricant every 6 to 12 months is advisable.
- Avoid grease-based lubricants, as these can attract dirt and cause buildup.

Also, regularly check that the screws are firmly tightened to maintain the hinge’s stability.

I simply use a WD-40 spray for hinges. First, clean them thoroughly, then spray briefly. It has worked without any issues for years.

Hey, a BRIMNES wardrobe is really durable, but the hinges can be a bit tricky sometimes, especially when they start to squeak.

My tip: a quick spray of silicone spray (yes, use that little magic wand!) makes everything smooth and quiet. Don’t use too much, though, or it will run and get sticky.

That’s exactly right – greasy stuff quickly brings in dirt, and then it squeaks again because it gets gummed up.

Take care of it every six months now and then, and you’ll enjoy the doors for a long time! 😊

That's precisely the issue. I also recommend silicone spray; it lubricates well and stays clean inside the hinge. Plus, I like it when everything runs smoothly and quietly afterward – it's almost like a little wellness treatment for the furniture. 😄
