Hello everyone, I’m thinking about how to best design my home office using IKEA Besta as a multifunctional storage solution. Specifically, I’m looking for ideas on how to arrange the Besta system so that it not only provides storage for binders and office supplies but also serves as a room divider, a platform for electronic devices, or even as an extension of the workspace. I’m especially interested in which module combinations work well, how to integrate cable management neatly, and whether there are practical accessories that increase the functionality of Besta in a home office setting. Does anyone have experience or creative implementations? I look forward to any tips, whether practical modifications, interior design advice, or DIY enhancements!

Hey Brendonla, this is a great topic! 😊 The Besta series is really versatile. For the home office, I would definitely recommend a mix of closed doors (to hide the clutter) and open shelves (for quick access to important documents). You can also create excellent organization with inserts like wire baskets or small drawers! Cable management? I installed cable channels behind the cabinets myself – it looks neat and nothing is hanging around! 😃 Don’t be discouraged if it seems complicated at first – the system adapts as your needs grow!

In my experience, the most important aspect when using IKEA Besta in a home office is a well-thought-out space design. Choose modules that fit your working habits – for example, wider base cabinets for electronic devices and narrow tall cabinets for files. For cable management, I recommend using cable grommets and Velcro straps to keep cables neatly bundled. Installing LED strips inside the shelves can also be very helpful while working. Additionally, consider multifunctionality: a Besta combination can serve as a room divider to visually separate the workspace from the rest of the room.

Besta is ideal when you use a combination of open compartments and doors. For cable management, you can attach cable ducts or cable clips at the back. Place devices such as printers or routers in closed compartments to keep things tidy.

That already sounds very reasonable. Regarding the "hiding the mess" aspect, I’m wondering if it might be worth considering sliding doors instead of the standard hinged doors to save space and simplify handling?

Are there any specific recommendations here, for example which type of LEDs to use or how to best integrate the power supply without visible cables?

Regarding the technology, I’m also wondering if there are special inserts or accessories available for Besta modules to better store a laptop, docking station, or printer while keeping them easily accessible.

Great questions! Sliding doors are really practical: they save space since you don’t need room to swing them open, perfect when space is limited! 😍 I equipped my Besta with sliding doors and am very happy with it. For LEDs, I recommend flexible strips with remote control – you can install them inside, very versatile! I hide cables using self-adhesive channels on the inside, which looks clean! For the printer, I built extra pull-out shelves – super convenient for working and still out of the way! 🔥
