Anatolben23 May 2021 08:17Hello everyone, recently I have been focusing on setting up a functional home office and have been especially looking at the Platsa furniture series from IKEA. I am particularly interested in whether IKEA offers specific Platsa modules or systems designed specifically to meet the needs of a home office. For example, furniture that works well for desks, organizing office supplies, or perhaps modular solutions with cable management and storage for electronic devices. It would also be helpful to know if Platsa components can support home office ergonomics, such as adjustable heights or practical combinations. I look forward to hearing experiences or tips from the community, especially from those who might already be using Platsa furniture for their home workspace.
IKEA mainly offers the Platsa series as a flexible storage system that can be combined modularly. However, there are no specific Platsa pieces labeled as "home office" furniture. The series is quite suitable for creating work environments by customizing cabinets and shelves according to room size and storage needs. Platsa works particularly well for organizing systems and storing office supplies. Cable management is not integrated directly within Platsa; complementary products such as cable channels or organizers from IKEA are recommended. Height-adjustable components are not available within the series, so this should be addressed separately with desks or desk risers.
I would like to add that Platsa stands out particularly for its flexibility, which is very important for home office furniture. The modules can be arranged to fit perfectly into small rooms or niches. Platsa is especially suitable for storing binders, books, or tech accessories. If the desk is planned separately, the cabinets can also be used as sideboards to create more order in the workspace. It is important to combine Platsa with additional elements such as ergonomic chairs and height-adjustable desks, as Platsa alone offers little in this regard.
To add: When it comes to the details that make Platsa a good home office solution, the following aspects should be considered carefully:
- Material quality: Platsa is made of sturdy particleboard with a melamine coating, which should be sufficiently durable for regular office use.
- Adaptability: The modules are available in various heights and widths – from narrow shelves to wide cabinet units.
- Interior organization: IKEA offers a range of inserts, drawers, and shelves for Platsa that are well suited for office supplies.
- Back panels and doors: Important to create a tidy appearance and keep dust out.
- Assembly and stability: Since the modules can be combined freely, proper anchoring is essential, especially when used as storage for heavy equipment.
A special point is that there are no Platsa modules specifically designed for the home office, but the modularity can be utilized very well. Whether as shelving, room dividers, or storage behind the desk, with some planning an efficient workspace can be created. It might be helpful to know your exact storage and space requirements to provide more targeted recommendations.

I’m asking because I often see modular furniture heavily promoted, but rarely with a complete concept specifically for home offices. Does anyone have experience with whether Platsa is designed for cable management or multimedia equipment? I often have many cables at my workstation, and I want to keep them as neat and safe as possible.
Are there perhaps combinations with other IKEA series that better address tech storage and cable management?
