Hello everyone,

After cleaning for spring, I unfortunately ended up with some light new streaks on my white KALLAX shelf unit. They appear to be surface-level but cannot be easily wiped away. The streaks look like scratches or possibly residue from cleaning cloths or cleaning products.

Does anyone have experience with the best way to clean white KALLAX shelves without damaging the surface? Are there any specific cleaning agents or techniques to target these streaks? I prefer not to use anything too harsh, as I want to keep the shelf in good condition without causing further damage.

Looking forward to any helpful tips and advice!

The best method is to clean with a damp microfiber cloth and a little dish soap, then wipe dry immediately. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

It's great that you clean your KALLAX so thoroughly! 🙂 Try gently rubbing it with a pencil eraser — some marks can be removed really well that way! Always be careful and gentle, and it should work out fine! Good luck!

That’s actually a great tip! I’ve used it myself when there were unwanted marks on white furniture. Just rub gently, but not too hard, otherwise the surface can become dull.

Otherwise, good old olive oil can also help if it’s not too dirty – just a few drops on a cloth and then polish. It really makes the white shine beautifully! 🙂

Hey, I think it’s really great that so much help is coming together here! 🙂

One more tip from me: If the streaks might be caused by leftover cleaning product residues, you can try wiping the surface with diluted vinegar water (1 part vinegar, 3 parts water), then wipe again with clean water. Vinegar is very effective at breaking down many residues. Just be careful when wiping—don’t make it too wet to avoid moisture seeping into the material!

Good luck, you’ve got this!

Do not use a scouring pad, as it will scratch the surface! For regular stains, usually just a damp cloth is enough.
