Hello everyone, I am planning to secure the kitchen plinths of the IKEA Metod system as durably and invisibly as possible. The standard plastic brackets supplied by IKEA do not seem sturdy enough for long-term use, and the clips are quite visible. My questions are:

- What alternative fastening methods are suitable for the Metod plinths to ensure a permanent attachment?
- Are there any invisible screw solutions or adhesive systems that look clean and hold well?
- What is the best approach if the wall or floor is slightly uneven?
- Are there any special tools or aids that are particularly helpful in this context?

I don’t want to leave anything to chance and would greatly appreciate your tips and personal experiences.

Hello Mere64,

a detailed response to your concern:

First of all, it is important to consider the material properties of the baseboard profile being used. IKEA Metod baseboards are usually made of PVC or similar flexible plastic, which makes drilling and screwing difficult because stretching and deformation can cause cracks or uneven joints.

- My personal recommendation is to use a combination of metal brackets with concealed screws and special mounting adhesive. Small brackets should be installed on the inner sides of the baseboards and on the wall; these should be as flat and narrow as possible to remain unobtrusive.
- Before drilling, it is advisable to precisely measure the bracket positions at right angles and mark them on the wall and baseboard, as any offset can quickly lead to unsightly gaps.

Regarding dealing with unevenness:
- Use a spirit level and, if necessary, a flexible sealing strip to compensate for small gaps. Alternatively, flexible sealant or silicone can be used, matched visually to the floor or baseboards.

About adhesive solutions:
- High-strength polyurethane-based mounting adhesive has proven effective because it cures elastically and can compensate for movement.
- However, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned and lightly roughened before application to ensure good adhesion.

Tools:
- A drill with dust extraction and fine drill bits for marking,
- Spirit level,
- Fine sandpaper,
- Utility knife or fine saw,
- Possibly a screwdriver with a small head.

Finally, my question to you: What are the floor and wall materials (e.g., tiles, screed, laminate), and which baseboard color or variant do you plan to use? This information would be relevant to provide advice for an aesthetically pleasing result.

I agree with this and would like to add: For floor unevenness, bonding with a suitable mounting adhesive is often the most durable solution, especially if you want to avoid visible screws on the baseboards. Screws always leave small drill holes or require brackets. If you use adhesive, the surface should be as dust-free and grease-free as possible. It is also important to press the baseboards firmly in place for several hours after gluing to prevent gaps from forming. This can be achieved by placing heavy objects on them.

Additionally, make sure that the adhesive does not damage the plastic material of the baseboards. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions! If mechanical fixation is necessary, I recommend very small, flat screws that can be concealed with a color-matched filler.

My questions regarding this:

- Are there invisible screw solutions or adhesive systems that remain neat in appearance and also hold well?
- What is the best approach if the wall or floor is somewhat uneven?

To add and summarize:

For a permanent and invisible fixing of the IKEA Metod baseboards, I primarily recommend bonding them with high-quality mounting adhesive specifically designed for plastics. This works best on a clean, smooth, and stable surface.

- If screws are preferred: use small screws (maximum 3 mm diameter) with countersunk heads, which can be placed through thin sections of the profile from the side. This screw fastening should then be concealed with color-matching fillers, such as wood filler or even fine plastic filler, to remain invisible.
- Irregularities can ideally be compensated for with mounting adhesive, which allows some flexibility.
- To hold the baseboards in place while the adhesive cures, wedges, clamps, or squeezing clips are useful to press the baseboards against the wall.

Tools:
- Cordless screwdriver with very fine bits
- Small drill bits (2-3 mm)
- Caulking gun for the adhesive
- Sandpaper for surface preparation

Make sure to align the baseboards before installation and prepare test pieces if needed. Without a perfect fit, the appearance will quickly look untidy.
