Hello everyone, I recently purchased a Brimnes furniture piece from Ikea and am now wondering if there are any specific care instructions I should follow to maintain its durability and appearance. I am particularly interested in advice on cleaning, preventing damage from moisture or scratches, and general tips for proper maintenance. Does anyone have experience or know details beyond the standard cleaning recommendations? I am especially looking for tips that help treat the material and surface of the BRIMNES as gently as possible. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Regarding special care instructions for the Ikea BRIMNES furniture, I can say that the piece is usually made from a combination of particleboard with a laminate finish. It is important not to use aggressive cleaning agents, as they can damage the laminate. It’s best to use a mild soapy solution and a soft cloth for wiping.

Moisture should be avoided, so do not leave wet cloths on the surface for long periods, as this could cause the particleboard to swell. Scratches are usually caused by sharp or hard objects, so it's advisable to use coasters and protective mats. Additionally, direct sunlight and strong heat sources are not ideal, as they can cause discoloration of the surface.

In summary:
- mild cleaning (no abrasive cleaners)
- no prolonged moisture
- protection from scratches
- avoid heat and direct sunlight

I think with BRIMNES it’s especially important to handle it with a bit of care—kind of like brewing a good coffee: not too hot, not too rough. 😉

Jokes aside, I’ve noticed a few small things that might help:
- The surface is fairly forgiving, but small scratches can still show up quickly.
- It’s best to use felt pads under decorations to prevent slipping and avoid marks.
- Regularly remove dust, as it can collect in crevices and become difficult to clean later.
- If something sticks, gently address it with a warm, damp cloth.

This way, the furniture will not only last longer but also stay looking fresh. 😊

That sums it up well! I have the BRIMNES bed myself, and at first, I didn’t realize how sensitive the surface is. In everyday use, I quickly learned that you really have to be careful not to place too many items directly on it that could cause scratches.

Also, I once spilled coffee on it, and luckily I was quick to wipe it with a damp cloth—otherwise, the laminate might have been damaged. The tip about using gentle cleaners is definitely valuable. I find that proper care works best when you treat the furniture as something a bit special rather than just mass-produced.

Has anyone else had negative experiences with water stains?

I have already used several BRIMNES cabinets and beds and can add the following: The surface is generally quite durable, but the particleboard underneath is sensitive to swelling.

Therefore, my tip is: When cleaning the furniture, always make sure the cloth is only damp, not wet. Prolonged exposure to water should be avoided. It’s best to dry it off immediately.

Also, when assembling, make sure all screws are tightened properly to prevent later wobbling that could damage the surface.

For protection, I also recommend using placemats or pads on shelves and tabletops to avoid scratches or pressure marks.

It is also important not to use solvents or alcohol on the surface, as these can damage the laminate.

To provide more detailed care instructions for the BRIMNES furniture, I’d like to get a bit more technical: The laminated coating on the particleboard is a type of melamine resin surface. This coating is quite resistant to scratches and moisture, but only up to a certain point.

The biggest risks are mechanical damage and swelling caused by moisture. The edges are often particularly vulnerable because the laminate is usually just pressed on or folded over there. That’s why special care should be taken in these areas.

Another important point is cleaning stains such as grease or paint residues. I recommend using special cleaning agents without solvents, as the wrong cleaners can damage the chemical structure of the surface.

Additionally, it’s important to avoid UV exposure, as the material can otherwise become yellowed.

If you want, feel free to share details about the room usage so I can give more specific advice on potential stresses.
