Hello everyone, I own several IKEA Brimnes furniture pieces—mainly cabinets and dressers—and I have noticed that some joints start to become loose or wobbly over time. My question is: What repair tips or proven methods are there specifically for Brimnes to stabilize or readjust the furniture? I am particularly interested in approaches that require minimal extra materials, as I do not want to order complete replacement parts. Are there common weak points to watch out for or standard screws/connections that should generally be checked more often? Any advice is welcome—tips for surface care are also appreciated if repair and maintenance go hand in hand.

Sometimes the screw holes are already stripped. In that case, it helps to put some wood glue into the holes and then tighten the screw again.Good tip, thanks! Can this also be used if small cracks have formed in the wood due to stress, or should it be avoided? I want to prevent the damage from getting worse.

Is this method also applicable if small cracks have appeared in the wood due to stress, or should it be avoided? That depends on the condition of the cracks. If the cracks are only superficial, a strong wood glue can indeed help to reinforce the structure, especially if you avoid putting further stress on the furniture and allow it to dry thoroughly. For deep or large cracks, however, this is a risky approach; it is better to repair those areas specifically with wood filler or putty. Additionally, after the repair, it is advisable to consider reinforcement measures, such as installing additional braces or relieving the load on the furniture in other ways.
I really appreciate how everyone here discusses things constructively and professionally! I also had issues with wobbly joints on my Brimnes wardrobe. Since I’m not very skilled with tools, I experimented with small rubber pads on the legs, which sometimes helps stabilize it and reduce vibrations. Maybe this could be a simple temporary solution for you as well until you can replace the screws.
Basically, with BRIMNES, maintaining the joints is crucial: - Regularly check the screws - Use wood glue or wooden dowels to repair worn holes - Lubricate screw connections with an appropriate PTFE-based lubricant - Additional stability can be achieved with small brackets if needed - To prevent wood swelling, always avoid placing the furniture in damp environments Additional surface care tips: Clean furniture foil gently, avoid harsh cleaners to protect the coating.
I just wanted to give some encouragement: BRIMNES is really sturdy, and you can do a lot of the work yourself! For me, tightening the screws after six months made the furniture completely stable. Just keep at it, and don't be afraid of small repairs. Also, remember that new screws can sometimes work wonders. Good luck!
