Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to use IKEA Besta cabinets to make the most of the sloped ceiling in my living room. The problem is that these cabinets are normally designed for flat walls, and I want to customize them to fit the angled wall. Specifically, I am looking for advice on how to cut or modify the standard Besta modules so they fit under the sloped ceiling without compromising stability or appearance. Are there proven methods for installing the back panels at an angle or for making the best use of the space behind the cabinets? I am also wondering about suitable accessories or tools for cutting.

Does anyone have experience with the IKEA Besta system and sloped ceilings? I would appreciate any ideas and practical tips, especially detailed instructions or personal experiences.

Thanks in advance!

It’s best to measure the slope precisely and then cut the top of the BESTA cabinets at an angle using a table saw. You can simply shorten and mount the back panel at an angle. Don’t forget to use screw fastenings to the wall for stability.

When customizing Ikea BESTA units for sloped ceilings, precise measurements are essential. This includes:

- Measuring the roof pitch and calculating the cutting angles
- Using a miter saw or a table saw with a guide
- Trimming the back panels and top edges according to the slope angle
- Securing the units to the wall with brackets or special hangers

An alternative is to add a custom cover on the top edge so that the cut edges are not visible. Professional finishing with edge banding improves the visual result.

Working with sloped ceilings can be really tricky! I would recommend installing a suitable trim profile along the upper slope as a transition between the top edge of the cabinet and the sloped ceiling. This not only creates a neat finish but also helps to conceal minor inaccuracies.

And yes, you definitely have to saw—preferably using a guide rail to ensure straight cuts. By the way, the back panels are often just slotted in; I would cut them to fit precisely into the angled space.

One more tip: If you customize the cabinets to fit the sloped ceiling, you might also consider a corner solution. Ikea offers affordable finishing trims and feet for leveling. You can also place the cabinets side by side and use cover strips to conceal the joints.

Thanks in advance for the tip about the table saw. I was thinking about using a jigsaw, but the table saw sounds more stable.

That sounds like you don't necessarily have to cut the cabinet tops at an angle if you make a cover. Could you explain more about that? Are there ready-made covers available, or do you usually make them yourself?

Also: What is the best way to attach cabinets to a sloped wall? Screws at height or rather hidden with brackets? And how does the stability hold up when installing a custom cover on top?
