Hello everyone,

I plan to install the Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet fronts and am looking for tips on how to achieve a perfect fit for the doors. Specifically, I am interested in the steps needed for optimal door alignment, recommended tools, and any special tricks to avoid crooked doors or uneven gaps. I want to prevent the doors from misaligning or not closing properly after installation.

Does anyone have experience with precise installation of Metod doors? I would greatly appreciate a detailed guide or helpful advice.

Hey darote,

yes, exactly, “installing loosely” is the trick! If you first screw in the hinges just enough to hold them but still allow some movement, you can fine-tune the adjustment later. This is very helpful, especially if you want the doors to fit perfectly and look clean.

Regarding height: I prefer to start with a spirit level because it immediately shows if the door is truly level. After that, I always rely on my eye – sometimes it still doesn’t look perfect to me, even if the level shows it’s okay!

As for the fronts: framed fronts sometimes require a bit more patience when aligning because they visually highlight any inaccuracies more than flat fronts. Flat fronts hide small errors better. So it’s worth double-checking frequently!

Keep at it, it’s definitely worth the effort! You’ve got this! 😊

This is not a trick or magic, but a simple technique to allow for adjustments later. Hinges fastened tightly are difficult to align accurately afterwards.

But honestly: relying too much on the spirit level can be overrated. Achieving the perfect fit is also a matter of millimeters in your perception.

My advice: give yourself a fresh look, take a break, check again later, and don’t focus too much on supposedly “perfect” measurements. Sometimes a slightly uneven gap is what brings a door to life.

Those who seek absolute perfection often end up frustrated. Perfect doesn’t mean flawless, it means harmonious!
