PufaleoI would like to start a discussion on the topic: How reliable is the load-bearing capacity of Ikea Hemnes furniture really?
I have read in various forums that while the furniture is visually appealing and quite popular, there are recurring reports of stability issues, especially with the drawers and cabinets in this series. I am particularly interested if anyone has solid experience with how much weight can be stored on the individual pieces without compromising their stability.
I am also curious about how durable the build quality is under everyday conditions – for example, how often screws need to be tightened or if wooden slats tend to crack.
Does anyone here have reliable experience or possibly comparison data with similar furniture from Ikea or other manufacturers? The more specific the information, the better! Thank you!

AUSTINREN14 May 2022 11:23IKEA Hemnes furniture is primarily made from solid wood and MDF (medium-density fiberboard) materials. The maximum load capacity varies depending on the type and construction, but the recommended maximum load for dressers and cabinets is generally between 20–30 kg per shelf (44–66 lbs).
Correct assembly is important, as improper construction can lead to instability. Under everyday conditions, it is common to retighten screws after a few months, which is not a sign of a defect in the furniture itself.
Compared to inexpensive MDF furniture from other manufacturers, Hemnes products generally perform better because the solid wood content provides greater stability. For heavy loads (e.g., very heavy TVs or filing folders), additional reinforcement is still recommended.

I find it interesting that mechanical durability is always a bit of an issue here.
To me, this points to an avoidable weakness – either in the choice of materials or the fastening technique.
One could argue that even solid wood furniture is only as good as the construction behind it. And with Ikea furniture, the focus is more on cost optimization than on long-lasting designs that would last 50 years.
I doubt that the strength of the Hemnes series is any better than comparable budget furniture – only the appearance suggests otherwise.

I have Hemnes in the bedroom – looks great, but after about a year some screws started to loosen slightly.
