I am planning to customize my Ikea PAX wardrobe system a bit more individually and am looking for Ikea components that can be easily integrated into the PAX system. Specifically, I am interested in functional interior fittings such as drawers, shelves, or clothes rails, as well as accessories like lighting or door solutions that can be installed without much effort.

Are there any experiences or recommendations regarding which Ikea components are particularly suitable and which might be better to avoid because they fit poorly or are complicated to install?

I am also curious if there are any differences in compatibility between the various PAX modules (e.g., width, height).

You’ve chosen an exciting project! Basically, the PAX system is a very versatile base. The KOMPLEMENT interior fittings are especially recommended – they are made specifically for PAX and fit perfectly:

- KOMPLEMENT drawers with soft-close
- Shelves with clip fittings that are easy to adjust in height
- Pull-out clothes rails, ideal for short items or accessories

In addition, LED light strips (e.g., MULIG or Ansluta) can be easily integrated as lighting. They are relatively simple to install and add a lot of convenience.

One tip: other shelving systems from Ikea are usually not compatible, so it’s best to stick with KOMPLEMENT. Good luck with your customization!

That’s true. Additionally, I want to clarify that the KOMPLEMENT series is specifically designed for PAX, and all parts can be modularly adjusted to fit the cabinet’s height and width.

It is important to pay attention to the exact measurements when choosing components, since the depth of the PAX carcasses (35 cm (14 inches) vs. 58 cm (23 inches)) affects which parts fit best.

Except for the lighting components, which require additional tools, drawers, shelves, and clothing rails can be easily attached using either clips or screws.

A brief overview of compatible products:

The usual from the PAX system – KOMPLEMENT drawers, shelves, and clothes rails – are very easy to assemble and extremely practical! The MULIG lighting makes the wardrobe look really stylish and also helps when finding clothes.

Personally, I would advise against using too many third-party parts, as they often don’t fit perfectly or require complex modifications.
