ArneparI have stickers on my Ikea Besta furniture that I would like to remove without leaving any residue. My main concern is to avoid damaging the surface or leaving any sticky traces that would be difficult to clean later. I am aware of various methods such as applying heat with a hairdryer or using oil-based treatments, but which approach is best suited specifically for the materials used in the Besta series?
Can someone provide a step-by-step guide that I can safely follow, possibly with recommendations for suitable tools or products? I especially want to avoid any risks with colored or laminated surfaces.

Removing stickers from Ikea Besta furniture requires special care, as the surfaces are usually laminated or painted. A general approach:
- First, warm the surface with a hairdryer set to medium heat. The goal is to soften the adhesive without damaging the laminate.
- Then, slowly peel off the sticker diagonally to evenly distribute the tension and avoid tearing.
- If adhesive residues remain, I recommend using isopropanol (99%), as it dissolves most modern adhesives without harming paints. However, always test first in an inconspicuous area.
- Alternatively, a solvent-free adhesive remover can be used, though these are less commonly abrasion-free.
It is important not to use sharp-edged tools or aggressive solvents like acetone, as these can damage the surface.
What type of laminate or paint exactly is it? Different surfaces react very differently to heat and chemicals.

What type of film or coating is it exactly? Different surfaces respond very differently to heat and chemicals.Thank you for your detailed reply. The Besta units have a white, matte film that is relatively smooth. It is not a high-gloss or real wood surface. I suspect it is melamine resin-coated particleboard with a film, which Ikea often uses. That is why I am being cautious to avoid discoloration or surface damage.
The information about the matte white film is very helpful. When dealing with melamine resin-coated panels, you should never use harsh or aggressive cleaners.
- Step 1: Gently heat the sticker with a hairdryer. Hold the hairdryer about 10-15 cm (4-6 inches) away and keep it moving continuously to prevent heat damage.
- Step 2: Try to peel off the sticker using your fingers or a plastic scraper—do not use metal tools.
- Step 3: Remove any adhesive residue with a microfiber cloth and a small amount of isopropanol or glass cleaner. Please test this first on an inconspicuous area.
Additionally, avoid oil- or grease-based products, as they may damage the film.
This method has proven effective for similar surfaces on Ikea furniture.

My experience: gently apply heat and then carefully rub off the residues instead of peeling them off.
If residues won’t come off, a damp cloth with warm water and some dish soap can help. This protects the surface. But it requires some patience—I just wanted to add that.
