Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the task of organizing my Ikea Pax wardrobe optimally and want to plan it thoroughly this time. I especially wonder: How do I plan the interior organization of my Ikea Pax properly, so that I make the most of the available storage space while keeping everything clearly sorted and having quick access to the most important clothing items?

I already have some basic ideas but am unsure how to best combine the individual components—such as shelves, hanging rods, drawers, and possibly accessories like storage boxes—to accommodate different types of clothing (e.g., shirts, pants, sweaters) in a practical way.

Additionally, I am interested in any recommendations for useful partitions and organizational aids you use in your Pax, particularly with regard to seasonal clothing changes.

Thanks in advance for your tips and experiences!

Hello Haumo,

First of all, here are some basic thoughts that can help with planning the interior organization of your Ikea Pax wardrobe. Proper organization is based on a thorough analysis of your needs — that is: which types of clothing do you mainly have, how much space do they require, and how often do you use them?

Here is a structured approach to planning:

- Measure the available interior space of your Pax wardrobe precisely. Width, depth, height — these dimensions form the basis for choosing shelves, hanging rails, and drawer inserts.

- Categorize your clothing. For example: shirts, T-shirts, pants, sweaters, jackets, accessories. Some categories need hanging space, while others are better suited to shelves or drawers.

- Shelves are great for folded sweaters or T-shirts. Place them preferably in the middle or lower section to make usage ergonomic.

- Hanging rails can be installed on two levels if you mostly hang shorter garments (shirts, T-shirts). This way, you can effectively double your available hanging space.

- Drawers are very practical for smaller items such as socks, underwear, and belts. Check if you can integrate them into the lower part of the wardrobe.

- For seasonal clothing, I recommend storing one or two boxes or storage containers in the upper section or in the basement to swap them out twice a year.

Finally, using visual labels or color-coded sorting systems (for example, small storage containers for jewelry) is really helpful to maintain long-term organization.

I would be interested to know exactly how much space you have and which types of clothing dominate in quantity. The more precise your profile, the more tailored my tips can be.

Hey Haumo!

The topic of interior organization with the Ikea Pax wardrobe is really interesting, and it’s worth approaching it with a bit of fun! 😄

I planned my wardrobe so that I can easily keep everything under control. I think it’s important not to overload it all at once—better to distribute things cleverly and create “small personal zones,” so to speak.

- I hang clothes on two levels: something for shirts on the top and shorter items (like T-shirts or light jackets) on the bottom.

- Then a few drawers for underwear and socks.

- For accessories, I have small boxes placed on the shelves—this way, I don’t feel overwhelmed by clutter, yet everything is still easy to reach! 😉

- For seasonal clothing: I either pack them in flat storage bags and keep them at the very top or in the back, where I don’t need daily access.

The trick is really to organize the interior not just by space, but also by how often you need certain items. So, you basically have your everyday “favorites” at eye level. For everything else, storage space at the top or bottom is sufficient.

Do you already have an idea of what your room will roughly look like? More narrow and tall, or do you have more width available?

Hello Haumo,

I would like to make my contribution more of a guide so that you can develop a clear plan for organizing the inside of your Ikea Pax wardrobe. Here is a step-by-step guide:

1. Take inventory: Write down all categories of your clothing and estimate how much you have of each type.

2. Create a floor plan: Note the dimensions of your Pax wardrobe and mark which sections are especially suitable for hanging or storing.

3. Select components: Decide how many hanging rods you need (often two are recommended – one at the top for shirts and jackets, and one below for items like T-shirts). Use shelves for folded clothing.

4. Don’t forget drawers: Drawers are very helpful for small items like underwear or accessories. Otherwise, it’s easy to lose track.

5. Avoid mistakes: Make sure not to store too many heavy items in the upper sections, as this can affect stability.

6. Plan for flexibility: Ikea also offers accessories like dividers or pull-out drawers that can be very useful for organizing things like scarves or belts.

7. Seasonal storage: To keep seasonal clothing easily changeable, you can reserve a space for boxes, ideally outside the reach of current season items.

Additionally, I recommend planning the position of the hanging rods before filling the wardrobe so that no clothing drags on the floor.

If you want, I can also provide a sample plan with specific measurements—just give me more details about the wardrobe and your clothing!

I completely agree. Especially considering that while the Pax system is sturdy, if the upper shelves are loaded incorrectly, there is a risk of sagging over time or even damage to the fittings.

One more tip – for the clothing rods, it’s best to choose lengths that are 5cm (2 inches) shorter than the internal width of your Pax. This allows some clearance to hang the rods without forcing them, and makes it easier to use accessories like hangers.

And Haumo, a quick question for you: What is your ceiling height and do you already have the interior components of the Pax on hand? Having those details really helps with precise planning.

If you’d like, I can also assist you by sharing an example plan based on how I set mine up – with drawers at the bottom, two clothing rods, and a good mix of shelves for folded items.

Hello Haumo,

I completely understand that organizing the interior can be challenging, especially when you value order but don’t want to lose track of everything.

In my case, I often feel overwhelmed when I just pile up too many small items. My advice: take it easy and don’t hesitate to declutter some things occasionally.

A well-organized cabinet often brings a certain peace of mind — I know this all too well.

I’d like to know that, too, because as Filippo says, it has a major impact on planning and helps avoid frustration.

Be patient; it’s a process that improves over time.

If you want, share what worries or doubts you have most about the organization.
