I am specifically looking for well-founded and practical maintenance tips for Malm beds, especially those that consider long-term use. I often come across general advice on bed care, but with Malm beds and their particular materials and mechanisms, I feel it would be more helpful to receive tailored guidance—such as proper surface care, tightening screws, or preventing squeaky parts. Are there any recommendations for reliable sources, manuals, or user experiences that go beyond IKEA websites and offer independent maintenance tips? I look forward to your suggestions!

For Malm beds, I recommend regularly tightening all screws with a hex key. To care for the surface, use a damp cloth without harsh cleaning agents. In general, this helps prevent squeaking noises and maintain stability.

The tip about tightening the screws is worth its weight in gold! 😊 I used to have problems with squeaky Malm beds, but since I started doing this, it’s been quiet. I also occasionally use furniture wax, which keeps the wood looking great! If anyone wants to try it, it’s really enjoyable when everything looks perfect again!

I can only agree with that. It is also important to use a mild soapy solution and a soft cloth when the surface starts to wear, to avoid damaging the veneer coating. Additionally, the bed should not be exposed to excessive moisture, as the particleboard could swell.

That is only partly advisable since Malm beds are made of veneer-coated particleboard, not solid wood. Furniture wax might smear the surface. For surface care, a lightly damp microfiber cloth is more suitable.

With Malm beds, it’s definitely worth not only doing a technical check but also treating your bed to a little “spa day” 🙂. So, don’t just tighten screws—thoroughly remove dust from all the corners as well, as this keeps the mechanics running smoothly. By the way: if you want to avoid squeaking noises, you can carefully spray a small amount of silicone spray on the moving parts—but use it sparingly! Too much will attract dust and make everything sticky again. And don’t worry, this maintenance routine almost feels like a little wellness treatment for your bed—just without the wellness price! 😉
