The edges and surface coating, in particular, seem to be vulnerable. My question is: How can I extend the lifespan of my Malm furniture so that they remain stable for as long as possible and the surface stays resistant to wear and scratches? Are there any special maintenance methods, protective measures, or small repair tips you would recommend? I am open to advice on proper cleaning, suitable materials for surface protection, or tips for careful handling.
Hey, this is a great topic! :-) I think if you love your Malm furniture, you should take good care of it! I always use this special wax for wood surfaces, and it really lasts a long time for me. Coasters and protective mats also help a lot to prevent scratches. It’s definitely worth keeping up with, because a little maintenance greatly extends the enjoyment of the furniture! Good luck! 🙂
It is understandable that people become attached to their furniture and want to keep it in good condition for as long as possible. Malm furniture often has a lacquered or melamine-coated surface, which provides some protection but can also be delicate. From my experience, small damages should be treated early, for example with furniture touch-up markers. I also think it is important to be honest and acknowledge that this furniture is affordable but not as durable as solid wood. Still, with some effort, you can get a lot out of it.
Malm and I have already had quite a few adventures together – from little “water fights” to hauling heavy boxes around. 🙂 My tip: occasionally replace the protective film on the surfaces and make sure to tighten every screw properly during assembly. This keeps everything firm and prevents the parts from becoming loose and wobbly. A bit of care and regular checks will help keep the furniture looking fresh for longer!

They allow you to clean and protect in one step without much effort. There are also protective edge strips available, which can simply be glued on – they help prevent nasty dents over time.
