Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to get a new wardrobe and have been considering the Ikea Pax series. Since I have a rather small bedroom but still want to keep my clothes well organized and easily accessible, I am especially interested in the option of an integrated pull-down wardrobe lift.

My main question is: Are there actually wardrobe solutions or interior fitting options within the Ikea Pax product range that include a wardrobe lift? If so, how exactly do they work, what sizes are available, and what is the quality and load capacity like?

I would appreciate some information to help me decide whether this is a worthwhile investment for me or if I should consider another system instead.

Thank you in advance for your insights and experiences!

Hello SAUFLO,

Regarding your question: Ikea does not offer ready-made Pax clothes lifts as standalone products. This means you won’t find an officially integrated clothes lift in the Pax series like those offered by some other manufacturers. However, there are accessories such as clothing rods that can be folded up or pulled out to optimize space.

One important point is that many users of Pax wardrobes rely on external clothes lifts from third-party suppliers or install them themselves. The design of the Pax wardrobes is quite flexible, which makes retrofitting easier.

If you want a proper clothes lift that can be raised electrically or mechanically, you will either need to buy a separate system or look for furniture from other manufacturers.

If you need more information about installation or suitable models, I’m happy to help.

Pax does not have an integrated pull-down wardrobe rail. However, you can retrofit wardrobe rails with a lifting mechanism if you are willing to order external accessories.

I completely agree. Ikea Pax only offers simple rods without a lift function. If you want something liftable, look for specialized clothes lift brands.

Thanks for the quick responses!

@Shawn38, thanks for the explanations about the flexibility of retrofitting. I’m also curious: Are there any recommendations on which wardrobe lifts work well with Pax wardrobes, or if there’s a special installation method to consider?

Also, I wonder if the load capacity of these lifts is sufficient for the weight of fully loaded clothes racks—like in a wardrobe about two meters (6.6 feet) high with several shirts and jackets.

Also, can anyone share insights on the durability of these third-party wardrobe lifts, especially when used with Pax?

I’d appreciate any practical experience you can share!

Pax wardrobes are fairly straightforward in design, so many universal wardrobe lifts fit well as long as the dimensions match. Models with a swivel arm and locking feature are recommended – this allows the lift to be easily pulled down and securely held at the top.

You should refer to the manufacturer’s specifications; most lifts are rated for at least 10-15 kg (22-33 lbs), which is adequate for typical clothing.

That varies depending on the product, but with a quality purchase and proper installation, a wardrobe lift can last many years. Ikea Pax wardrobes are sturdy enough to handle the load.
