Hello everyone, I recently purchased METOD kitchen fronts from Ikea and am now facing the challenge of mounting the doors so that they close completely silently and are optimally aligned. My previous attempts unfortunately always ended with a slight scraping noise when closing or doors that didn’t sit entirely flush.

I am particularly interested in how to best adjust the different types of hinges (especially those with built-in dampers) so that you don’t have to readjust them later on. Is there a practical, proven guide or any tips on how to mount the doors smoothly and almost noiselessly?

Maybe some of you have more experience with this series and have been able to solve or at least greatly improve these exact issues? I’m looking forward to your suggestions and support!

The most important tip is: fully open the hinges, unscrew the door, and hang the hinges on the cabinet frame. Then tighten the screws slightly and adjust the doors. Use the adjustment screws at the front, back, and side to align the door precisely. To ensure silent closing, make sure the soft-close mechanism is properly engaged.

Hello, I have installed several METOD doors myself and understand that adjusting them can sometimes be frustrating. The hinges typically have three adjustment options:

- Lateral adjustment (left/right)
- Height adjustment (up/down)
- Depth adjustment (in/out)

For quiet closing, it is important that the doors are properly aligned so they do not catch when closing. Additionally, the METOD hinges have a built-in damper that provides a smooth, almost silent closing – but it only works correctly if the hinges are installed properly and the gap around the door is even.

Another tip: After installation, double-check all screws, as the door can shift during use if they are not tightened properly. If the noise does not completely disappear, it can help to lubricate the dampers with a little silicone spray (use sparingly to avoid getting any on the exterior surfaces).

What door thickness are you using exactly, and which type of hinges? That also affects the adjustment a bit.

That is exactly my main issue. I have doors with a thickness of 18mm (0.7 inches) and use the METOD soft-close hinges with a clip-on function. Sometimes the doors are slightly crooked and then catch on the cabinet front when closing.

The silicone spray sounds interesting, I will definitely try a small test batch. However, I am a bit skeptical whether it might have a negative effect on the plastic housing of the soft closer.

The tip about checking the screws is also very important, thank you! Has anyone had experience with the best way to adjust the three settings one after the other? Adjusting them all at once sometimes confuses me a bit.

Here is a simple step-by-step guide on how I install and adjust METOD doors to avoid creaking and scraping noises:

- Fully clip the doors onto the hinges
- Slightly tighten the cabinet screws so the door can still move
- Side adjustment: keep adjusting until the gaps on the left and right sides are equal (my most important step)
- Height adjustment: then set the height so the door aligns evenly with the adjacent doors
- Depth adjustment: finally, adjust the depth to ensure the door sits flush with the cabinet front
- Always test the closing after each adjustment, preferably several times

Additionally: use a spirit level for doors spanning more than two cabinets and make sure the hinges fully click into the holes. Only then can the soft-close mechanism work optimally.

I mostly had noise issues when the doors rubbed against the side edges, which usually happens due to uneven gaps. If all the gaps are correct, the noises should be minimal or disappear entirely.

Thank you very much! This helps me a lot because I have usually mixed up the adjustment sequence a bit randomly so far. That naturally leads to confusing results.

Of course, I will also double-check several doors with a spirit level. Ultimately, I want everything to fit both visually and functionally.

I have also noticed that the rear hinge positions (on the cabinet back panel) were not always mounted perfectly parallel in my case, which affects the later door adjustment. How precisely should the hinges be installed so that no further corrections are needed later?
