ᐅ How does the collaboration with architects work, especially when it comes to creating building plans?

Hello everyone,

I am currently exploring how private homeowners experience the planning phase of building a single-family house – especially regarding time investment, costs, and collaboration with architects.

I am looking for people who are currently building, still in the planning stage, or have already completed their build and would be willing to share their experiences in a short interview (approximately 30–45 minutes).

This is not advertising or a sales pitch, but purely a survey.

A single-family home intended for owner-occupancy is in the vast majority of cases built by private homebuilders: either by a developer for sale, or by the resident family acting as the builder themselves—public authorities or welfare organizations almost never build single-family houses.
The question about collaboration with architects is statistically imprecise because the term “architect” is used in two different ways: technically, an architect is a licensed professional (either self-employed or employed), qualified as a graduate in architecture or civil engineering authorized to submit building plans. However, many clients of general contractors or home manufacturers refer to the person leading the planning meetings as “architect,” even if that person is only a draftsman in terms of qualification. What kind of meaningful answers can you expect under these circumstances?
