Hello everyone,

I am considering getting a new Pax wardrobe system from Ikea but would like to know if there are any options available that come fully pre-assembled. From my research so far, most Pax components are usually delivered as flat-pack kits that you have to assemble yourself. This can be quite challenging with the larger wardrobes that have many shelves, doors, and internal elements, especially when it comes to stability and precise fit.

Has anyone had experience with this or any information about whether Ikea actually offers such fully pre-assembled options? Perhaps as a special order or at certain stores? Or are there employees or service providers who offer pre-assembled versions as a service? I would appreciate any advice or tips, including alternatives, if fully pre-assembled Pax wardrobes are simply not available.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Finn54,

I completely understand your question! I recently had the same thought myself because assembling PAX furniture can be very frustrating. As far as I know, Ikea does not offer fully pre-assembled PAX wardrobes as standard products. The carcass components usually come flat-packed.

While this is not officially offered in stores, sometimes local assembly services specialize in Ikea furniture and, for an additional fee, will fully assemble the furniture—but rarely deliver it pre-assembled. So, in most cases, you would either need to be present during assembly or hand it over completely.

That is unfortunate, especially since assembly of large PAX systems can be time-consuming and stressful. I considered hiring someone as well, but the prices vary widely.

For me, it’s important to mention that self-assembly also has advantages, as you can customize both the carcass and the doors individually. But yes, the desire for pre-assembled components is absolutely understandable!

Hi,

PAX is not delivered fully pre-assembled. It comes as a flat-pack kit. However, there are third-party providers who offer assembly services. Ikea itself does not sell pre-assembled versions.

Hello Finn54,

I would like to discuss the topic in a more technical and detailed way because the question about fully pre-assembled PAX wardrobes is more complex than it seems at first glance.

First of all, the PAX system is designed with individuality and flexibility in mind – various widths, heights, depths, interior fittings, and door options can be combined. This means most components are shipped as flat-pack kits to optimize transport.

A fully pre-assembled and screwed-together version presents a completely different logistical challenge. The wardrobes are quite bulky, and complete assembly would likely result in higher shipping costs and shorter delivery options. Additionally, potential transport damage could occur, which is easier to handle with disassembled delivery.

That is exactly the standard case.

To answer specifically: No, IKEA currently does not offer fully pre-assembled PAX wardrobes. However, so-called assembly services from IKEA or third-party providers are available, where professionals handle the installation on-site. The wardrobe itself is still delivered in separate parts.

If you want to save yourself the effort of assembly, it’s worth considering these assembly services, even though they come with extra costs. For beginners, there are also instructional videos that explain the assembly step by step – but of course, these do not replace the time required for the work.

Perhaps you might also be interested in trying out smaller individual elements first to get familiar with the system and assembly process before deciding on the large PAX wardrobe?

Honestly, I find the discussion a bit overrated. Sure, pre-assembled PAX wardrobes would be convenient – but don’t you also know the feeling? Too often, people buy furniture expecting a product that fits perfectly right out of the box and requires no effort.

And in my opinion, there is a reason for that. The system is modular and flexible. It practically forces you to engage with your wardrobe, get hands-on, and at least think a little. A pre-assembled wardrobe would be very limited in options and probably too bulky for self-collection.

So yes, I admit, PAX is work. But that is not a drawback; it’s part of the concept. If you really want something fully pre-assembled, designer wardrobes or custom carpentry are a better choice anyway – and the price is completely different.

I realize this isn’t for everyone, but it does challenge you a bit. Maybe that even helps you appreciate the furniture more.
