Hello everyone,

I hope you can help me: I own the IKEA PAX wardrobe and am looking for creative and practical ways to make the most of the available storage space. Specifically, I’m interested in whether there are proven IKEA hacks, modifications, or clever add-ons that go beyond the usual shelves and hanging rods to create more storage or use the PAX more efficiently.

I’m particularly interested in how to better organize smaller items or optimally customize drawers and compartments. Are there smart tricks involving additional rails, internal drawers, shelving systems, or perhaps DIY solutions that can be easily combined with the PAX?

I look forward to your experiences and tips, including any advice on implementation or sources for suitable accessories.

Thanks in advance!

To increase storage space in the PAX wardrobe, I recommend the following IKEA hacks:

- Use SAMLA boxes (transparent, stackable) as additional storage containers inside the wardrobes, which can be placed on the floors or large shelves.
- Install extra shelves beyond the original ones, provided the side panels have pre-drilled holes for this purpose. This allows for better vertical division of space.
- Use VARIERA storage containers in the shelves to keep small items organized.
- Fit cut-out skirting boards with wheels under the PAX units to make it easier to clean or access the space behind the wardrobe when needed.
- Flexible dividers work very well for drawers. By custom-cutting existing inner drawers, storage space can be used much more efficiently.

Most of these solutions can be combined well with original PAX accessories and do not require complex modifications. For DIY projects, I recommend installing narrow wooden or metal strips as support beams for additional shelves.

In summary, maximizing height and creating customized internal divisions significantly increases capacity, often more effectively than simply expanding the base area.

Hey mapin31,

great idea to use the PAX even more cleverly! 😊 I started a small PAX hack project myself and can share a few simple tips that really make a difference:

- Velcro strips or small magnetic strips inside the doors to organize light items like jewelry, scarves, or belts efficiently.
- IKEA VARIERA containers as stackable organizers, even for socks or accessories that often turn into a lost treasure hunt inside PAX wardrobes.
- For the drawers, I made removable dividers from cardboard (there are also affordable plastic options) to keep things better organized.

I can definitely confirm that—vertical layering is especially valuable with PAX!

Have fun upgrading your wardrobe!

This question is generally relevant, but I would add: In what context are you looking for hacks? Is it for more storage for clothing, small technical items, or changing objects?

Because the effectiveness of a hack greatly depends on individual use. For example, installing internal drawers or using hanging systems for shoes or bags is very specific.

Additionally, when making modifications, it is important to ensure they are reversible in case the wardrobe needs to be adjusted later. Some users also rely on custom-made wooden inserts or cut-to-fit pieces based on Ikea dimensions to precisely divide the interior spaces.

Have you had any experience with modular divider systems or combining PAX with other IKEA systems like Ivar or Kallax?
