Hello everyone, I would like to ask about your experiences with IKEA Hemnes furniture in children's rooms. Specifically, I am interested in how durable the furniture is in everyday use by children, whether the quality justifies the price, and if there are any common weaknesses to watch out for when buying. It would also be helpful to know how practical the furniture is for daily use, especially regarding storage space and cleaning. I would appreciate it if you could share your personal experiences—both positive and negative!

I have Hemnes wardrobes and a small bed in the children's room. The furniture is sturdy, but the dark finish is prone to scratches. Storage space is decent, and cleaning is easy with a damp cloth. Solid for the price, but not premium quality.

Interesting that you ask about weak points. I have found Hemnes furniture to be fairly sturdy in the past, but the quality is not consistently high, especially regarding the drawer slides. The noise when opening and closing could be improved. For children’s rooms, I also find the edges somewhat sharper than those of comparable brands, which is something to keep in mind.

I can confirm that! Our daughter has had her Hemnes bed for almost two years now, and of course there are a few marks here and there. But hey, that somehow fits the kids’ room look – it tells stories! 😉 The storage space is great, and I really find it practical that you can buy almost everything individually.

I am using Hemnes for my twins’ nursery. The furniture is straightforward, easy to assemble, and the surfaces withstand daily wear and tear well. Only the shelves needed occasional adjustment because they warped slightly over time.

Honestly, I find the hype around Hemnes overrated. You pay a lot for a simple design, but the quality is at best average. For a kids’ room, something more durable and child-friendly would be better, especially when it comes to finishes and edges. Sure, Ikea is affordable – but inexpensive doesn’t necessarily mean good.
