PekokoHello everyone, I recently reassembled my IKEA Brimnes furniture after moving and unfortunately noticed some damage that clearly happened during the move. Specifically, there are small scuffs on the edges, some joints on wooden parts have come apart, and a few panels are slightly warped in places.
My question for you is: What is the best way to repair these typical moving damages on IKEA Brimnes furniture without affecting the appearance too much or having to order complicated replacement parts? What should I pay attention to during the repair, which tools and materials are recommended, and are there any practical tips specifically for the Brimnes series that I should know?
I would appreciate detailed answers as I really like the furniture and want to restore it to a sturdy and good-looking condition.

What is the best way to repair these typical moving damages on IKEA BRIMNES furniture without affecting the appearance too much or having to order complicated replacement parts? That is a very good, specific question! I like to go into detail because with BRIMNES furniture, many small details make a difference.
First: Repairs of moving damages can be divided into three categories:
- Surface scratches and scuffs
- Loose or cracked joints
- Warped or bent components
For surface scratches, I recommend using wood repair markers or matching wax filler sticks in the color of the surface (often white or light gray for BRIMNES). The touch-up works best when the surface is dust-free and when applying thin layers.
For loose screw connections, I suggest loosening all screws first, checking the assembly method in the instructions, and then carefully reassembling with moderate pressure. If the holes have been worn out (due to moving or similar), you can strengthen the joints by inserting wooden dowels or using wood glue to improve stability.
For warped panels: Unfortunately, it is often only possible to carefully realign the piece, as particleboard panels are not very flexible. Minor warping can sometimes be corrected by applying pressure and clamping with straps or clamps — but be careful not to cause further damage.
Important tools/materials are:
- Fine or wood files and fine sandpaper (grit 220 or finer)
- Waterproof wood glue (suitable for furniture)
- Wood or furniture repair kits (touch-up markers, wax fillers, putty)
- Straps or clamps
One more question for you: Are there any screw or wood edge areas at the damaged spots that have widened or torn? Because that would allow more targeted use of wooden dowels or similar aids.
I hope this gives you a good overview already!

Just gently press small pieces into the scratches, smooth them out – and it looks much better.
One more tip: after filling, you can lightly sand the spots with very fine sandpaper to restore a smooth surface. But be careful not to remove too much!

So make sure to assemble everything properly; otherwise, it’s no fun.
And if the smell of wood glue bothers you – there are now low-odor versions available. But it’s best to work near an open window! 😉 Good luck to everyone dealing with their BRIMNES treasures after moving!

What is the best way to repair these common moving damages on IKEA BRIMNES furniture without significantly affecting the appearance or having to order complex replacement parts? Here is a structured repair plan as a supplement:
- Precisely locate and classify the damages (scratches, loose joints, deformations).
- Because repair fillers may have slight color variations, always test on an inconspicuous spot before fully treating the area.
- Always fully reassemble loose screws according to the furniture assembly instructions, and be careful not to overtighten the torque to avoid further cracks.
- For swollen or torn panels, applying a damp cloth and gently pressing with clamps until the material dries can help return the surface to its original position.
- If screw holes are worn out, wooden dowels or special repair inserts are the best choice, as they restore the holding power.
- For edge abrasions, furniture wax filler or wood filler paste help to fill and smooth the area.
- Tools: cordless drill/driver, various screwdrivers, wood glue, sandpaper with different grits, putty knife, wood filler compound, clamps.
- Optional: a set of replacement screws in case the old ones are unusable.
BRIMNES furniture is sturdy but not specifically designed for heavy mechanical stress. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to both the structural and visual condition.
