Hello everyone, I have an Ikea Metod worktop that unfortunately has some scratches and a few dents. Since I’m not fully familiar with the material and surface, I’d like to know: What is the best way to repair scratches and dents in Ikea Metod worktops so that the surface damage remains as barely visible as possible? I’m particularly interested in practical methods for the surface and material, either DIY solutions that can be done at home or recommended products from hardware stores. Also, any advice on substances to avoid would be appreciated. Thanks!

I also want to encourage you a bit: Sometimes you notice more damage than others when standing in front of a countertop. If the scratches aren’t too deep, gently wiping over them with a damp cloth and a mild polish can really help. At the same time, I know that dents are trickier and can quickly lead to disappointment. But with patience and the right tools, you can salvage a lot.

I also want to offer some encouragement here

Exactly, encouragement is important, but it’s also essential to have realistic expectations: scratches can often be visibly improved, while dents usually can only be filled with repair compounds. Make sure to check that the material of the repair compound matches the color of the panel, otherwise an unsightly spot may appear.

I have had quite good experience with a special repair kit for plastic and laminate surfaces on my Ikea Metod countertop. The kit included small amounts of filler and color sticks, which allowed me to effectively fill and match cracks and dents. It is important not to apply too much and to sand everything smooth after the treatment.

Important: Before repair, thoroughly clean and degrease the surface to ensure that polish or filler adheres properly. It is best to test on an inconspicuous area first to see how the material reacts.

For dents: first try gently with an iron and a damp cloth, then if necessary use repair filler.

Thanks for the tip, the iron method sounds interesting. Does anyone have experience or recommendations for which repair fillers work best with Ikea Metod countertops? Or do you need to pay special attention to the ingredients because of the surface? My countertop is melamine-coated, in case that helps.
